>have old backpack
>had it for over a decade
>let anybody draw/write whatever they want on it
>dyed it black yesterday

Should I leave it the way it is or go over the entire thing with a permanent black marker?

Not really. Doesn't have to be neat or anything. I just pulled out the laces and started painting. As you can probably tell from the pics, the rubber will crack but the canvas will just rub off, which I sorta like.
Actually, being neat about it is probably counterproductive imo. All about getting that worn look.

i just did these myself. if you want them to crack, like the mmm x converse, you have to use gesso or a similar wall paint. acrylic paint will be absorbed into the canvas and rub off, as opposed to a gesso or other wall paint which will stay separate from the canvas and crack

I put 3 coats of gesso over mine and they just started to crack, i'm p happy with them

Then I shall start threads and show off what I've done. I'm going to start on one of the legs tomorrow. Just saying I'm doing it entierly by hand, except the big zigzag stitches so this will take a while.
>>7880313
Find a small zipper you like and remove the little staple thing with plyers. Remove the zipper fly and you'll have two zipper halves to use. Trim to length if needed. Just sew them in with two parallel lines.
>>7880382
You should get some black jeans from a thrift store. Any will do so long as they fit. Next you will need patch material. Lightweight canvas, more denim, good leather from a fugly jacket, plaids from pj bottoms. Whatever you want. Just 'never' make really small patches. Minimum size would be like a rolling paper package or like that leather logo patch on the back of your jeans. Easier to work with, looks better. Look at other peoples stuff for an idea. For thread, you can use cotton or unwaxed artificial sinew. Or dental floss if you want white. But that is over done. Never use nylon as it is way too shiny.
Next step is tricky
You may either A) cut the jeans into booty shorts and do the patches that way. But you must have the jean measurements written down for obvious reasons. Better yet you can carefully deconstruct the leg panels to patch over the existing denim. Which will be hot in the summer. I'm doing just that with a little inspo I got from Jun Takahashi, pic related. Trying to eliminate the overhearing factor with the shredded holes and shirt cotton underneath to balance out the heavier patching over the existing denim. There's nothing to it. Just remember: Fucking think before you cut holes or sew a patch. Don't go crazy with forcing it to look crustasfuck. You'll fuck up for sure.

Just look at a tee shirt that you have. Cut the arms about an inch longer than what would be a perfect fit. Fold and pin the raw edge inside the arm and sew it with thread that matches the colour and gauge as the rest of the garment. Either that or just roll the sleeves up.

>> No.7885806

>do i need to bleach them at all before soaking them in dye
No. There exists a fabric dye remover. It can be found at most dollar stores
>also would the fabric already having dye present make it more difficult for the new dye to set
Not at all
>should i just iron them afterwards?
After the dye, let them drip dry as much as they can and then put them in the dryer.
>also whats the best amount of time to soak them?
24 to 36 hours. The dye should come with instructions as to how much dye you need per yard or ounce of material. Honestly I forget which. Be sure that the garment is always fully submerged, but not packed down on itself. Every inch needs breathing room.

I did this to my beater pair a few months ago, and I'm relatively sure that if I had done it when they were new and had used some suede cleaner, they would have came out perfectly.

Right, which is the point of me saying that IF I had, rather than I did. the suede looks noticably different because there's over a year of wear on the suede that was uncovered before I removed the N, and I definitely treated these shoes rough during that period.

The only real concern is the stitching holes, and once they were clean and your brushed the nap, I doubt they'd be anything other than hardly noticable - still a lot more subtle than the patch logo still being there.

I'm not saying you should or shouldn't do it, I'm just providing my results and explaining the context.

I have a bag full of my old shoes in the basement. sk8 his, authentics, chucks, NBs, some white leather nike hightops that I quite like..
I want to go DIY on them, but most of them smell like shit. How do I fix that? Can I throw them in the washer? Its not like I actually care about them, but if its sure to ruin everything theres no point either.

Planning on fucking with my old chore coat that I bought like two years ago when first getting into clothing

I really want to emulate Junya's style and stitch leather over 2, maybe three of the pockets, on the shoulders, and then maybe a contrasting leather or flannel on the elbows.

I've never actually worked with leather before but I assume it's very similar to most fabrics? I know I'll most likely have to buy the hide in full or something as thats how they sell them but they don't seem to be too expensive and I think I'll need one at most.

My question is can I hand stitch this leather and hand cut it or do I need special tools? I know I can't use normal thread but what should I use? I'm imagining a thicker, more twine like thread but I have no idea where to buy such a thing. I really want to bring this project to fruition as I think it'd look swell but I lack the technical knowledge. If someone could help I'd be real appreciative.

hmm, i think we might have some confusing. no problem, i'd like to see how these turn out.

cut the canvas and toecap off a pair you don't want to wear so that you just have the sole. glue the sole to the bottom of the sole of a pair of the same size, so that those shoes have a double-thick sole. tape and press it while it dries, then tidy up the gap between the soles somehow.

you'll get something like this. obviously you'll want to glue some ribbon or something around the gap.
