i read of a technique where you put everything on a hanger and orient them all in the same direction and then turn them around when you use it

after a year, the clothes you don't use will be in the original orientation and you can throw those ones out

I own 45 pieces of clothing total, not counting sleep/gym/suits and winter clothing. I wear everything I own and whatever I don't need gets donated.

When I buy something new I usually get rid of something old that I don't like. If you haven't worn it within a couple months or are holding onto it for sentimental reasons, you have to realize that it's keeping you from fully enjoying other pieces of clothing that you love.

Plus being this selective on what goes into my wardrobe cuts down on impulse buys, expensive things I eventually realize I don't need, etc. It's cheaper and helped me realize what I like design-wise faster.

I just donate everything to whatever charity or association is accepting clothes/shoes/etc

I do it twice a year. Once before summer and once before winter. Donate/give away/sell everything i don't wear or don't need.
If in doubt i put it in box under my bed, if i didn't search for it and take it out, i definitely don't need it.
I do sometimes keep a few pieces and experiment sewing on them.

I'll donate all my stuff that I don't wear any more, but there are some staples that will always have their place
