Might be a good idea depending on where you're located, I was the same but just started climbing myself. So whatever suits you better

Also, listen to this: >>7791413
Taking up bouldering practice will help immensely (seriously, you won't be expecting how hard it is to hang off a ledge for even short amounts of time and pull yourself up/along), and if you can get a couple of good parkour classes in they might help too

And when you start, just try things low to the ground - a lot of smaller, particularly older buildings have facades that make them well suited to climbing and it makes for good practice.

Real-Climber core or what you think climbers should look like. Most of us just dress like we live in the pacific north west/stoners. So many beanies/sandals, wide goofy pants etc... Everyone I climb with tells me I look "European" because apparently duffle coats and Chelsea boots only exist in the UK. (To be fair I do try and dress a bit "mod")

The people whop do giant urban stuff are mostly rock climbers who transition. It's hard to build the strength and endurance to do that kind of thing in an urban environment only. Go boulder at a local gym to get an idea what you are in for if you really want to do this.

Climbers bodies are also pretty strange. Your shoulders get massive, as do your forearms, not much bicep, not much pectoral. Legs tend to stay where they are. Squats and Oats is bad for climbing, as it's all about relative strength and endurance. Pic related. Adam Ondra is one of the best climbers around.

>> No.7791585

pushups situps dips pullups etc etc, there are plenty of calisthenics work out programs out there check out /fit/ there are always calisthenics (bodyweight) threads on there. Im assuming you are fairly low bodyfat since you are on /fa/ if not you should cut down. You should lift weights as well not just bodyweight. because its good to switch off. Since you aren't going for aesthetics you are just going for strength do HIGH weight LOW reps. please go to /fit/ if you are serious.

Most of us don't lift weights. You climb, maybe some basic calisthenics (pull ups are great, do some push ups also so you don't fuck your posture, situps if you need core). Just climb more and eat right.

>> No.7791603

>>7791585
Please no. Seriously the /fit/ advice is terrible for climbing. Flexibility > Endurance > Strength once you can lift body weight. You are not just building muscle, though some of that will happen, you need to strengthen tendons, something most people never really do.

Calisthenics are good. Weights are stupid unless you intend to dyno every move.

Alright, I signed up for the gym about a week ago, what are some things I should be focusing on for a routine?

>> No.7791626

>>7791603
Dont listen to this guy, you have to do weight training if you want to climb buildings. There is no way you could legitimately climb 100 plus feet easily without picking up weights prier, these climbers have facebooks and you can ask them. Strength and Weight Training is necessary if you want to become serious about climbing.

>> No.7791633

>>7791618
looking up strength training for climbing, there are plenty of programs out there, cardio is important. Work on your back, lats not so much biceps but do a lot of dips, try the dip machine.
