Due to this, most don't even try to form a unique sense of style, and just cop uggs leggings and north faces (alternately riding boots, leggings and parkas) because of trends reflected in the omnipresent media everyone is exposed to. Guys, being the buyer on this sexual sellers market cannot get away with this behavior unless they are objectively attractive at a higher level, and often try to develop a style to make up for their unattractiveness (or just parrot the style of more attractive males in a way very similar to girls).

It boils down to the fact that American zeitgeist has girls as the prize and guys as the competitors. Competitors must get a creative edge for the win, but a prize is a prize regardless of the box it comes in.

I think this is due to men's competitive nature. Especially young men who are "into" fashion turn it into a competition of sorts. A competition of aesthetics and who looks the coolest. They will use their wealth to look better than other men. Girls figure they just look hot anyway and don't need to over do their outfits. And since they're less competitive they won't mind as much when 10 other girls are wearing the same expensive clothes as them. Plus rich girls usually don't earn their own wealth so its not like theyre educated in high fashion anyway. The rich man who provides will be more /f/ because he's probably a more refined individual.

On the street I see better dressed and more fashionable women than men. A lot more creativity in their outfits, designer items and an aesthic look. Part of this is a majority of males where I am from don't really care about fashion. I think women also have a better opportunity to dress differently/more extravagantly than their male counterparts.
