Hey /fa/, whats the appeal of geobaskets? Explain it as if to make a complete newcomer to understand.

They are a unique design as some of the most bulky high top sneakers which blend perfectly with the rest of rick owens clothing that exaggerates proportions. Wear with or without laces - zipped or unzipped. Jeans/sweats/shorts all work with them.

Basically Rick made it so that if you were his clothes you are going to most likely need some Rick footwear to support the outfits. Obviously this isn't always true and other footwear works but Rick with Rick is the easiest for newcomers.

>> No.7702531

I really like them, never regret copping them few years ago.

>> No.7702536

As far as I can understand -

The geobasket is an appropriation of a recognizable shoe in which the features are exagerated to an almost cartoonish effect, resulting in a unique silhouette not found in normal sneakers. Rick fucks with the semiotics of a basketball sneaker, by producing something that is flamboyant and almost kistchy. Also, the materials used are high quality and the sneaker only looks better with age/wear.

The whole shape is very rick. If you don't like rick's chunky toes of course you won't like geos. It's streamlined. Few shoes are that simple but thoughtful too.

Yeah, they're Rick's take on a basketball shoe. Rick's never really hidden what the pieces are takes on, especially given the style names. The "Fetish Waders" coming for fall are obviously takes on wader boots, the "Ramones" are patterned after Converse (as famously worn by the Ramones), and so on. It extends into the garment styles, too: "Tornado", "Kite", "Athena". Hell even the one-sized jersey tanks and dresses are literally called "Rick's Tank" and "Rick's Dress".

The flagship mainline sneaker has always had "Geobasket" as its style name; it's just that the style itself changed over time.

if you can't see the similarities you must be fucking idiot. It even plays with/abstracts the long "V" branding

>> No.7704297

>>7704288

The change in the swoosh was because (it was rumored that) Nike was getting uncomfortable with the similarity. It's really just a modified version of the "swoosh" that was on the original dunks. It's not like Vans has a storied history of basketball shoes or anything.

One is an expensive Nike shoe and the other is an expensive Vans shoe. The End

>> No.7704910

>>7704827
how much the differences mean really depends on how much emphasis you place on the differences between the shoes. If you consider the overall build and coloring to be the only important facets, then yes, the shoes are very similar and you shouldn't think too hard about picking one over the other. But if you placed emphasis on the how the color is actually used, then there are substantial differences. They're completely different in that sense. And more obviously, the base of the soles aren't even comparable

So yeah, there's almost no difference between the shoes compared to those and roshes. But compare the difference between those two and the difference between either to dreamboxes, and its far more substantial

>> No.7704943

>>7704910
ok and dreamboxes are the same thing as geos right?

>> No.7705008

>>7704943
the difference between geos and dreamboxes is negligible compared to the difference between geos and roshes
so from that perspective, yes, they are effectively the same.
