I have a pair of redwings from the 80s that I've worn for 5+ years, and that were already way worn in when I got them. They were lost when moving somehow. I almost wore them for the trip, but didn't..no clue what happened to them.

I'm devastated. This fucking sucks. They were worn in so beautifully. I don't even have a picture of them to show you guys, but really, my friends even knew them.

If I can't find them again, I'll have to buy another pair of boots..what do I do, /fa/?

They were pic related(with better strings obvs), and were perfectly worn in.

What do I do? I'm not sure I can buy another pair of Rangers. I'm going to be disappointed with them, I know it. I need to move onto another boot that is familiar, but not the same. Something I will grow to like more and forget my old friends.

No budget. Please help.

It was probably my fault they were lost. I put them in a box and the whole box is gone. I should have packed them in with the personal box I was carrying in the car with me.

Do what I do for purchases I'm hesitant on. If you go to school/work/ect. and usually get lunch, skip lunch 2 days a week and put a 5 dollar bill in a jar in your car. Sounds dumb but you never notice that shit & you'll have enough to buy any boots you want and not feel bad in 2 months.

More or less, the Vibergs and Oak streets are both basically slightly reshaped WW1 service boots (look up Pershing boots) with no hobnails.

The Wolverine 1Ks are kinda a weird work boot/dress boot hybrid. Personally I'm not a fan of them.

Yeah, and that 20week wait for them to be made for you, and the expense (which isn't worth it IMO, if the one i've handled in store was anything to go buy).
Viberg are all about that one, singular service boot last.

If you were looking for an oiled captoe, The LL Bean Katahdins are pretty nice. Leather isn't anything close to redwing quality, but they still look great.

On the other hand, if you were looking for similar, but didn't want a captoe, J Crew has those Beckmans that come in an oiled leather like the Iron Rangers. I hear they are pretty nice, but I'm not /fit/ so the toebox + thick sole just doesn't work on me.

With Chippewa you really do get what you pay for.
I mean, they're good and all, but if you want RW's IR's and can afford them, they are much better.
The leather is one thing, but it's a question of their construction which is more important. Chipps have a synthetic insole, RW's heritage line use a traditional leather insole. Synthetic insoles do no last as long as proper, leather insoles and have the tendency to crack over time. Not saying it's gonna happen in a year or two, but if it's a question of longevity, and you want to shell out more, get the IR's.

I will say though, in reference to this post, I definitely want high quality. I can spend up to $1000 as long as I'm sure they will last me years and years if well taken care of. I have beater boots for yard work, I will be wearing these and not babying them but definitely taking care of them in terms of leather-care to ensure they age well and last a long, long time.

I'm not interested in any wimpy boots. My budget is at least $1000, so I'm fine with almost any boot recs.

Do you have a preference for any particular colour? Leather type? (shell cordovan?) General style? Dressier or more workboot? (captoe? no captoe? brogueing? how high of a boot? etc.)
Where are you located?

I would say, that if you're in the US, to look at White's boots carefully, read some reviews, see what custom options are available. They'll take longer than a trip to the store to get, but you can specify exactly what you want.

There's other small, niche custom makers out there that will fill out and perhaps exceed your budget (like that custom Adam guy some anon linked) but Whites appear to be very well regarded, and I am trying to assess them further myself. (depending on build options say 500 or so bucks seems to be the median price for their semi-dress model)

>> No.7671292

>>7670586
I'm not worried too much about the leather type as long as it looks good and is sturdy. I prefer darker browns(>>7669465 was a good color), for general style I'd like something along the lines of the Iron Rangers in the OP, but I want something different enough that I won't constantly compare them to my old favorites, pref no brogue, captoe is fine, height I'd prefer at least a decent way above ankle but nothing work boot-y.

I'll check out the place you mentioned.
