Post your rooms.
Let's see who has the most /fa/ set-up.

Also inspirational rooms are welcome.
Keep minimalistic shit to minimum though, there's not much to look at.

If a pallet can support all the weight of, I dunno, washing machines and drums of cooking oil and whatever they use it for, I'm sure it can support a mattress and your body weight.

As far as finish, if you wanted to do that, you can do whatever you want to it. Spray paint it black. Give it a high lacquer finish. Sand it smooth and stain it. Whatever.

Maybe in terms of design; particularly engineering, graphics, and web... When it comes to actual rooms and or homes, it's a sign that you're lacking personality. Unless it's part of your culture, like Japanese or Swiss.

>>7635358

>> No.7636728

Throwing shit on your walls and floors doesn't give you a personality anymore than collecting a bunch of books makes you well read.

Minimalism allows a rooms to become focused on a small number of things which are important to a person, rather than being filled with distractions. It's like the idea of a simple meal with only a couple of ingredients, where each of the individual parts can be emphasised better than if it had been made with many.

Based on the fact that you excuse the "Japanese and Swiss" because it's "part of" their culture, your definition of cultured seems to be strictly adhering to the culture you were born in to. But what's virtuous about that? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but adopting elements of other cultures, or just picking out elements that you like in abstract, shouldn't be a negative thing.

a few years ago i picked up bedbugs from coworkers. we worked in a factory-type setting and would all stash our stuff (jackets, lunches, bags, whatever) in the tiny break area. so anyway a few months into this job i start noticing bloodstains on my mattress/sheets and bites all up and down my arms. i lift my mattress off of my box-spring and there's like hundreds upon hundreds of bedbugs living there. they bore into the wood and fabric of the box-spring. they get INSIDE your blankets and sheets. they feed on your blood in the wee hours of the morning. they get into your clothes, your bags, your shoes, your books, your records so that it's impossible to clean them out. they can each lay up to 5 eggs per day. even if you kill all of them, their eggs will be everywhere and then they'll hatch and your infestation starts all over again. also you'll never kill all of them in the first place.

you can have your apartment chemically treated, in which case you literally have to bag up everything you own, every knick knack in every drawer, every shoe, every book, everything has to go into sealed plastic bags piled in the middle of the room. all furniture has to be pulled away from the walls and disassembled. you have to take out all of your socket-casings because they get into the walls through electrical sockets too. then they come in and spray your whole house and all your furniture and you have to stay out of your house for a day. then when you return, anything that comes out of the sealed bags has to be either thrown away or else washed in hot water or put through the dryer on high to ensure that any bugs/eggs in/on it are killed. you have to do this like 4 times in a span of two months, and even then complete de-infestation is not guaranteed.

or you can get your house heat-treated which is also a ha$$le.

you basically have to move and throw away everything you own to really get rid of them.

yeah. a professor of mine said he lived in one in Kyoto for a few years. He hated the shit out of it.

In winter you're more or less confined to the ground floor or you'll freeze, but in Summer you'll never leave the 2nd floor and your windows will ALWAYS be open.

He also mentioned that noise was an issue. The traditional houses in Kyoto were built RIGHT next to one another and weren't so good at dampening sound. Not only could you hear your neighbors all the time but you had to be careful of your own noise levels so as not to bother your neighbors. Like living in an apartment with paper walls...

In general. I like the Edo period merchant houses from Kyoto. The unagi no nedoko (though I think that was the name of the neighborhoods, not the houses. I think the houses were called "Machiya?") that had the storefront on the street, a courtyard garden, then the actual living area/house in the back.

The Samurai villas were pretty cool as well though they'd be far too ostentatious if you don't have a staff of servants.

Also, the general lack of furniture would kinda suck. I like to have lots of framed art and such hanging on the walls but that'd look a bit odd in a traditional Japanese house.
