I went to portland off a tax free shopping trip and I felt like the majority of SA were impatient, rude, or unprofessional. Wtf, is it because they have so many tourist shopping there that they act stuck up? Just for comparison, it doesn't feel like this in seattle.

I went to a Versace store over Thanksgiving. The workers were really condescending, like the thought I couldn't afford what was in the store. I know it's a ploy to get people to "prove themselves" and cop something. ie them getting themselves some commission, but it's mad annoying. guarantee I made more than anyone in there the past year.

On a better point I went to a Barney's and the girl that worked that was very nice, really helpful. Although the tried to teach me about raw denim. Ugh girl, please. She looked to be ~18 years old. Youngest person I've seen in a Barney's.

Last time we entered a shop, we started taking anything that remotely cached our attention to the changing room and by the time we finished we realized we had left a mount of clothes on the stands. I walked in to a local boutique for basically the first time a few days ago. It was great honestly. I didn't go in looking for anything in particular, and the guys there were talking to a product rep who was showing off the latest shoes from the line he brought in.

They left me to my devices after asking if I needed anything. After a while, a guy came over and asked me about my outfit, in particular asking if my shoes were rick. We ended up talking about rick for a bit and then high fashion and price points in general, and how he had been looking for a specific piece for a long time, etc. Turned out he was the owner. We talked for at least 45 minutes about local fashion and the culture and business and how it all affects the store, and it was in general a very rewarding talk since this guy has been to so many stock shows to pick up shit around the world and just had way more experience than me.

At the end of it I grabbed a sweater I had been eyeing, and he told me that he really enjoyed our talk and gave me no tax + 20% off. He shook my hand and introduced himself and I was pleased as he could be a very valuable contact in the future for me given the route of my education.

So I guess long story short, just go in, be yourself and actually shoot the shit if you get the chance. You might really enjoy yourself.

I do that all the time. Whenever I'm in a larger city I'll go into upscale department stores/boutiques and browse around. I find the key to having the SA's not totally hate and ignore you is to dress in a manner that suits the store. Like if I decide to browse around Holt Renfrew/Harry Rosen/Barney's etc. I'll wear my Margiela's or CPs or other equally expensive shoes with some of my better clothing (Undercover, w+h, nudies, apc etc. etc.) SA's sometimes bend over backwards to help me and give me their employee cards because they think I'll drop mad $$$ and they'll get the commission. I'm also 18 tho (and look it), so they just figure I'm a moneyboi using my parent's credit card.

In short, dress the part and you'll be able to walk through as many upscale stores as you want judgement free.

if it turns out they are not interested at all just stop talking,
simple as that
dont be afraid of strangers they have other things to worry about

I've found certain people will try to fuck with you just because you're intimidating too. Especially if they're in a group. It's kind of a veiled compliment, though.
