guys I really don't wanna spoil your fun, but the hype you create around rick is just pathetic. he's not a bad designer - to the contrary, he made a couple very nice pieces - but now that he had his fifteen minutes it shows that he lacks the originality to stay in the game in the long run.

look at this fit.
>oh wow, a grey sleeveless shirt
ok we get it rick. you like to take things and make them longer. next please.

wow. skirts. never seen that before in a rick show. Oh wait, he made them out of leather. uhm ... ok.

that's not at all what I was saying. I was criticizing the board's lack of originality. as I said, there's nothing wrong with Rick, but the hype he's getting on here is completely detached from the actual overall quality of his skills as a designer or his work, and the focus he gets completely shuts out other influences which could greatly benefit the board.

for example, anyone seen the latest Burberry show by Bailey? The last couple shows were mostly shit, but the A/W'14 show was so good I downloaded it and watched the whole show like half a dozen times because it's so inspiring in terms of color combination and patterns. It is an art to create fashion that is still so down to earth that it fits into the "classic menswear" scheme but still making it inspiring and creative.

It's much less of an achievement to create fits that mostly address mediocre rappers and socially detached high school students who lrn2fashion on an internet board.

he's right though. to make something "interesting" when you are producing garments that are totally outside of what people wear every day isn't really hard. Try it out. Take a piece of clothing and say "let's make this a bit edgier", "let's make this a bit longer/shorter", "let's make this into a geometrical form". repeat those steps often enough and you end up having an "interesting" piece of clothing.

>Well what do you expect from /fa/... It's always been crossboard migrators, underage b& and fuccbois.
absolutely. It was a good starting point to get into fashion when I first came here about 2010, back then it was a mixture of classic menswear, prep style and more experimental stuff (gothninja was just on the rise back then). Nowadays it's 90% experimental styles (read gothninja, lunarcore etc) and absolute basics, but paired with an unoriginal/uncreative mindset that makes people end up looking like they were dressed by the internet, and most of them couldn't pull it off anyway even if they did it right.

>And if it means anything I really liked Burberry Prorsum this season as well, love it every season but the second half of the collection was excellent
I know what you are saying. I found the first part exciting, too, but those scarf/tunic hybrids in the second part in combination with the coats were just breathtaking. I also really loved the london map patterned raincoats.

>And Rick is getting huge attention in Asia (China / Hong Kong to be specific) so that's incorrect. And the attention he is getting from the North American fashion community is already huge
Oh, okay. I was talking about the European market because it is generally a good indicator of international fashion (hence why the "fashion metropoles" of the world have until recently all been in Europe, until japanese fashion rose, and sans New York because obv it's New York). He's getting very little attention in the European market - if it wasn't for this board I would barely know his name, compared to e.g. Kris Van Assche (who gets a lot of hate on here), who is really renowned and often featured in fashion magazines and whose designs I personally like a lot.

I just feel like this Rick thing on here is just a massive bandwagon, like another poster said in the other Rick thread: "babby's first high fashion".

It's a simple coat, many "obscure" designers have been doing vaguely similar cuts for a while. It wasn't invented by either Devoa or Julius. This is like seeing a plain Christophe Lemaire or Haider Ackermann blazer and saying they "took" the idea of a loose fitting blazer from Yohji... Point being is that it's been around for longer than you think enough to have become a standard design used by many, and the design itself isn't complex or revolutionary to have been "invented" by someone.

not my favorite collection, because I felt like nobody really rocked the boots, but I loved the colorwork and the layering of the colors.

to anyone complaining that 'rick never duz nething different waaah' he has even in his interviews said that he isnt that type of artist. He has his aesthetic already, and he's going to stick to that and if you grow tired of it or dont like it, thats fine, but that doesn't mean he's bad or has lost any clout in the fashion industry. Rick Owens is an amazing designer and you're only making yourself look like a fool if you think the only reason anyone likes him is to bandwagon.

The reason people don't care about boris is because he doesn't have the cohesive, unique style designers like rick have. He takes a bunch of shit from designers like rick then throws it together into one overdesigned, largely unwearable collection that isn't versatile at all. It's hard to wear boris unless you wear FULL boris, and even then, you aren't going to look as sharp as someone in full yohji, full rick etc. That is why no one cares.

So what? There are a hundred better alternatives.

>implying that a "cohesive, unique style" makes up for lack of originality or inspiration
It doesn't. The thing is, rick doesn't need to make up for originality because he has it. Boris is the one who doesn't as I already explained. I don't even know what the fuck lack of inspiration is supposed to mean, sounds like a buzzword (buzzphrase?). Does that mean rick isn't being blatantly obvious with what he copies? Well yeah, unlike boris, he takes inspiration from the long established styles of ethnic groups and dead designers, not whatever the popular designers did last season.

if you don't understand what inspiration means, look at the current yohji show, and put it into relation to former yohji shows.

then look at the current rick show, and put it into relation to former rick shows.

the difference in awe you experience stems from inspiration. having a unique style is nice, but if you keep regurgitating the same stuff over and over again it becomes boring. to leave the viewers breathless and excited by what a fantastic collection you've come up with again (inspiration) without losing your own signature style (originality), that is what makes a designer and his designs great.

I'm not even a big fan of Rick, but the most basic looks from Moody are way better than what you posted. You don't understand now but you will in the future. The look you posted is something that is very easily likable by someone with an untrained eye, it's really difficult to explain. >> No.7616760

So by inspiration all you really mean is variety. Because inspiration doesn't mean at all what you want it to mean. There's actually quite a bit of variety in rick's show CONSIDERING it's a rick show. Like another anon said, rick is not a designer who is trying to take a 180 each year. His variety didn't come in the form of new prints (on the runway at least, I expect there to be a few for sale though). It comes in the form of new shapes and reinventions of old favorites, and there are actually a lot of new cuts in the outerwear specifically.

My take on those 4 shows:

•Yohji:

>HOLY FUCK WTF IS GOING ON??? I saw some previews of the collection being prepared earlier today but nothing could have prepared ANYONE for this. Definitely a good amount of solid standalone pieces, just have to look past the confusing visuals of the styling. Snake print jumpsuits were fucking god tier, really really really hope it drops in July so I can buy it. But everything else was a bit too overboard and gaudy for me, I'm very interested in reading about his inspiration for this collection. Very refreshing but as far as personal preferences go I didn't really like it as much as I did FW13.

•Boris

>Awkward and incoherent mashup of this and that.

•Damir

>Is he even trying anymore? Idk if his new aesthetic direction is selling really well or something but he has really gone downhill in the last few years.

•Rick

>You described it perfectly. It was just a fucking solid collection. Love it.
I, too, am looking forward to Dries. FW13 was really, really good and hope FW14 is even better.

1. Previous Season stock is made and ordered by retailers months before release. So FW13 has already stopped being made since like late summer - fall last year.

2. Yes, the stock usually goes on sale but sale season starts around halfway into the 2 seasons (June, Dec.)

3. Restocked with what? Once something sells that's that in most cases. SS14 is arriving around this time if that's what you're talking about.

4. Sale season is usually around June and December.

there will most likely be some re-iterations of the geobaskets. Like velcros, they get released every season but there are some details/colorways that are changed.
