I need help with suits.

Almost finished my education and in two weeks ill be an intern at a financial service company. After that its probably going to be a corporate life. I read the sticky but couldnt find much about it. Is there a guide?

Or if you could choose 3 kind of suits, what would you get?

>> No.7606888

Navy and a charcoal or darkish gray for sure.
2 button or 3, just depends on your preference.

Get something that fits well if you aren't planning on getting it tailored, but there is no reason to not get it tailored if you are going to be making good money.

Tie width should match your lapel width. Obviously you arent going to be wearing shawl lapels for business, peak or notch should be fine.

Personally I love Thom Browne's suiting but the shorter proportions might not work for everyone.

Suit supply is a good place to go for your first suit.

noted, thanks for the help.

Do the colours really matter of the shirt and tie? or am i solid with anything from white, lightblue to darker blue?

>> No.7606936

never mix pattern with pattern; dont wear too many colors

Start with a couple of White and light blue shirts. From there, branch out and get some different colors. Nothing too neon colored though, go for pastels as much as possible

also, what about a gilet? or is that to much.

But what about Beaverton???

>> No.7607304

Whatever you do don't wear a "fashion" fit of suit. By that I mean the ones that are skin tight and the pants are short and show leg.

You can wear trim suits but don't go overboard. You want to look dignified.

Opt the fuck out of this "career" thing as soon as you still can and do something you actually enjoy instead

Suits are easy once you get the hang of it.
The general rule is not to have more than one pattern.
Go from dark to light to dark. Suit is dark, shirt is light, tie is dark.
The shirt sleeves should be longer than the jacket sleeves by only a little.
Make sure your watch, shoes, and belt are all the same color (black or brown)
Stick to muted colors. Nothing too bright, flashy, or loud.

Don't make the mistake of buying wide lapel power-suits like Harvey when you're like a Junior Analyst or something

OP I work in the finance industry, go for slim/regular, two button suits. If you're feeling cheap get one from Topman or Zara (or Indochino, but I can't vouch for the quality) and get it tailored. As long as the shoulders fit and the sleeves aren't too short you can get most things tailored.

As for colour I'd probably go Charcoal first (black shoes), then navy (black or brown shoes, belt matching) then probably a lighter grey (black or brown). Don't do shit like wool ties or double breasted suits until you've gotten the basics

>>7610163

Also don't go full Thom Browne. It may look good on runways and in inspo pics but shit like that might get you chewed out in the workplace, honestly.

i'm not well informed with suits or fashion in general but i would say don't dress above your station. don't go getting an armani or hugo boss suit or something unless you really can afford it along with other more expensive stuff. it's of course good to look sharp and well put together but if you have like a really expensive suit and a ford fiesta it just looks shit.
also, dressing like james bond at anything younger than about 25 years old sometimes doesn't look good.
