in all seriousness though, I'm a Red Wing guy, I just think that I could be serious about fashion overnight if I wanted to be. I'm not even making fun of these boots, I just don't like the attitude that being able to appreciate the stuff that Darklands Berlin stocks makes your taste more refined, because to me it seems so easy to appreciate something like CCP

it's easy to condescend to people who don't want to spend thousands on stuff from in and around the Paris scene, but I think the reality is they're just different styles, and it's more about not caring for it than not "getting it".

we take it for granted so much that Yohji is fashion, whereas red wing is not fashion; or, at least, that clearly Yohji is fashion on some kind of higher level. Maybe I don't accept that assumption.

I have the brown pair. They actually are alot nicer than I thought they'd be. The leather is soft and looks really good right out of the box but i slathered mine in sno seal and now theyre a darker brown.
The only things to keep in mind are
1)the run fuckton huge. I sized down 1 and a half which was very slightly too small at first but after breaking them in they fit perfect
2) they arent waterproof. so no big puddles or excessive rain if you care about some mildly wet socks.
3) they are in way warm. Theyre DESERT malis. Not warm or waterproof.

But they look really good and im happier with them than i thought Id be.

Are there any boots that are good for driving (Good pedal feel)? If you've never driven with your boots a general rule of mine is that a good driving shoe can pick out pebbles on a sidewalk or cracks in pavement with ease. It should also be relatively unrestricted around the ankle but I guess that goes without saying.

even as far as heritage workwear garbage goes red wing is nowhere near top of the line. at least ccp, a1923, m.a.+ are some of the nicest boots in their respective field

I know that they were an 'ok' brand, and nothing to write home about. However, it's been several years since I've seen any in the flesh, so perhaps things have changed.

For 400 bucks you might want to shop around some more to see what else is on offer in that style and at that price range.

Still, that museum style leather is nice looking, at least in the picture.

The shape is nice, but that's about it.
The pebbly grained leather with the furry top look a ridiculous combination. Add in wedge soles that are crepe and and I just don't know wha the fuck.

if all bean boots are made by chippewa, then inferior construction to save money and keep the price low preclude them from ever being "best boots" - maybe for the economically challenged, but with chippewa you get what you pay for. it's not bad, and will probably last you a long while, but there's a reason why they are cheaper than other bootmakers and it's not because of any undue markup on the part of their competitors.
if you can afford better than chips, get something else; if you can't, then they are perfectly adequate .
