Mori is not really about being functional, it's supposed to be like, someone who looks like they live in a forest but in a "whimsical" kind of way. So females wear light airy clothing and muted colors and lots of layers and such. There is another Japanese style for girls that is more like hiking wear as fashion but I can't remember what it is called, something to do with mountains.

It actually looks great on white people as well, they often use white models for mori brands and it is very heavily based off Scandinavian style. For example, this was for the Japanese mori brand Syrup. They like to use ridiculously Scandinavian looking models, like super tall, blonde, and fresh from Sweden. I have no idea why, I personally think mori girl looks really weird on tall women. But I think that the Scandinavian facial aesthetics fit it nicely.
