did you use product in your first pic? if you want to go for that out of bed look, a bit of that matte clay is really nice. what i currently do and what works well, too, is to first use gel (spread it on your fingers and then just touch your hair on various spots), and then use hair spray on top of that to keep it in shape (bend your hair a bit so you get to the root as well).

whatever you do, I recommed using high quality (i.e. high price) products. my gel and my hair spray cost me $35 combined, but goddamn it's paying off so well - about a pea-sized drop of gel is enough for my whole head, and it doesn't look sticky or oily or anything. same goes for hair spray - cheap ones make your hair look sticky, good ones are practically invisible.

I used wax for some time, but now I kind of think it's worthless. it's somewhere between clay and gel and I never get the desired results without making all my hair sticky. but maybe that's just me

I went to the barbers and asked for an under cut on both sides, but you want to leave all length in the fringe so you can wear it back. now the back of the head is blended so it doesnt look retarded a the back and the sides have a clear line, or step. How to achieve hair of the gods
1.) have good hair genetics (This is like 50% of the game)
2.) no poo if you poo too often. I used shampoo every day and whenever I didn't wash my hair it would get greasy and nasty looking. After I washed it it would look lightweight, scratchy, and damaged (how I thought it was supposed to look)
3.) Make sure you're drying that shit correctly. If you just do whatever with the towel and rub it around vigorously, then you're raping your hair after every shower. Lay the towel over your had and pat, pull the hair into little handfuls and gently dry it with the towel. Run your hands through your hair a few times, then let it breathe while you put your pants on. Take your hairdryer, put it on the lowest setting and press the cool air button. Hold it like 8 inches MINIMUM away from your head, and dry. Work your other hand through your hair until it's dry. After using the hairdryer, you can use a different spot on the towel to finish up more quickly, but use same procedure as before.
4.) Make sure you are styling your hair correctly and using the correct products. For me? I just wear my hair down with no products. If you're using paste of some kind, don't wipe your hands off on the towel, wipe it on the sides and use it to pat down hairs that are sticking out.
5.) On the days where your hair is just bein extra greasy, DON'T SHAMPOO IT. Undergo normal drying procedure, then use baby powder. Put a small mound of baby powder in your hands, rub it around on your hands so it's even, then run it through your hair. Don't use too much. Baby powder is an ultimate boon from the gods. Put that shit in your underwear and you won't get grimy pubesweat crotch. Put it in your socks and your feet won't stick. Put it in your armpits and you don't feel all sticky from the deodorant. If you're like me and you have sweaty hands, put that shit on your hands too.

The sides at the least. I wouldn't HY them, that is to say, I wouldn't shave them all the way given your hairline.

But yeah, just the sides so your head doesn't take on a lightbulb shape.

As for clippers? I dunno, I cut my own hair and whenever I'm not sure how short I want to go I just start with the highest clipper that cuts it at all, and if I want it shorter I just go step by step down till it's what I want.

You can do that at the barber too. Just tell them you aren't how short you want to go, so start high.

Then have them taper it down till it looks pleasing to you.
