i hate this criticism. no one complains about dbss' similarities to rick's hi tops, and no one points out that the swoosh dunks are luxury nike terminators. no one complains when rick remixes vionnet or gres or poiret but when someone remixes rick people act like the man's work has been desecrated.

this isn't a campbell or skovsgard knock off, it's not a chinese copy, cinzia araia took an idea that already existed and she riffed on it, the same as all designers do.

Rick's sole and the whole shape of the shoe is way more of a specific concept. Not to mention its obvious she just tries to offer an alternative specifically to rick sneakers at a lower price point. Even DBSS isn't that similar to rick and the reebok sole DBSS copied is on a shoe that looks so different to their "remix" its not comparable.

let's call a spade a spade here: rick does things like dunks and the converse ramones because they're an incredibly saleable product. he saw a market for luxury purchases of wealthy hip hop types, and as surprised as he wants to act when jay-z starts name dropping him, that was exactly the goal of the dunk, it was precisely what he intended.

i didn't even imply that ca's work is on the level of rick's, but to write her off as a commercial hack while ignoring what rick's intentions are with dunks is a little myopic.

I kind of disagree, unless you're willing to say the whole "gothninja" urban styling wouldn't exist as it does without rick's input, which IMO is kind of sucking his dick a little too hard.

Give credit where its due, but not where it isn't.
