Anyone here experienced with watches? My grandpa recently found one of his old watches from the 70s and was curious of what it might be worth nowadays. It's amazing that it actually still works. Battery is running good.

Says at the top of the head:
Constellation
AUTOMATIC

And at the bottom of the head:
OMEGA
CHRONOMETER
OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED

On the band:
14K G.F.
Stainless Steel hinge
OMEGA

Any help would be appreciated.

chronometer certified means that it does not run on a battery. It means that it is an automatic movement that runs on a kinetic movement. If its running the way it should, then it should essentially lose no time over the course of a day.

Thats a vintage omega you've got there, probably worth a few thousand

wow thanks man. Where can I find a place to get it appraised and sold? Sorry I'm a noobie.

TBH I wouldn't get it appraised, I'd find a good watchmaker, get it serviced, and keep it. That's a cool as hell watch with family history, you should keep it to pass down.

Omega is pleb shit and it's worth nothing. It was basically the Timex of its day and sold at Sears before the James Bond endorsements. Your grandpa bought a piece of crap. Sell it and get a Daniel Wellington.

me nor my grandfather would use it, not a watch guy myself. but some money would help pay the bills during some hard times

The amount of money people pay for Omegas says otherwise.

Your personal opinion on fashion and watches means shit, when you can get good money for it.

Daniel Wellington fucking lol, if I wanted a Timex I'd get a Timex and pay half as much.

I'll give you $500 for it, no questions asked.

You can be chronometer certified quartz, and the 70s would be the right time for a quartz Omega.

Please don't talk out of your arse and give people misinformation.

First of all I'd recommend testing how accurate it is. Set it to the atomic clock wound it up as much as you can and leave it for 24 hours. See how much times it loses or gains. Repeat the next day and see if it's consistent with the day before.

If it's running all over the shop you're going to need to get it serviced. With an old watch like that don't bother taking it to Omega but goto an antique watch maker and get them to give it a clean as well.

If you're set on selling it, be prepared for disappointment. Vintage Omegas are a plenty on the second hand market and only the sought after models like diving watches are sold in the thousands.

OP

Here's a watch that's very very similar to your GFs. It may even be from the same era. I doubt they would have changed productions on the Constellation.

Note that it sold with a cracked crystal but those actually aren't very expensive to replace ($50~)

Note that watch also appears a lot cleaner than yours.

I would agree with one of the anons. Keep it. Family history is priceless.

>hats a vintage omega you've got there, probably worth a few thousand
if it was a new omega seamaster you'd be right

even the god forsaken quartz seamasters pre-craig bond are worth more than vintage omegas

the mostp opular

seamaster deveille ~ 100-200
Pie-pan conste MAYBE $600 if mint with boxes etc

really only bought by people with sub 6" wrists and are new to vintage watches
