I know there's this whole 'just do it by yourself and don't rely on designers' sort of thing when it comes to lunarcore, but it's pretty hard to find stuff (read the sticky).

Gotta take pieces that are used for a specific thing like an orange hi-vis hunting jacket and then turn it into something else so nobody will know what it /was/ used for.

He said It doesn't even matter if you're a space pilot or a post-apocalyptic cowboy, the point is to appropriate pieces in order to make a style that you simply can't buy (which is why dese fuccbois keep slipping up). Its refusing to submit to some designer's vision but using his/her stuff to build your own vision

Exactly. If the outfit reminds him of scifi, good for him, but it is not the impression I got from that one.

Isn't this the point of fashion? You're not actually good at dressing yourself if you need to wear a preconceived head-to-toe RO fit to do it right.

For the record, I realize I didn't do a good job describing Lunarcore in fashion terms. Here's a clearer description of what I meant by "Pallet. Military influence. Post-apoc feel." using gothninja comparison:

Rick Owens/gothninja looks have a mostly monochrome pallet. Primary style influences are Japanese minimalism, and punk elements, somewhat related to Nu Goth (if you don't know the fashion history of those, you don't know what you're talking about). "Gothninja" pretty much describes the feel- dark romanticism in an post-industry setting combined with counter-culture street elements. Emphasis on asymmetry, long vertical lines, juxtaposed textures.

Lunarcore has a muted pallet that takes from "used" industrial design. Primary style influences are modern military, both real and fictional aerospace elements (and similar industrial-type safety ones), possibly 50's retro with a bit of punk too. "Post-apoc feel" is as described above, a sense of futureism, space travel, and the need for resourcefulness implying disconnect from civilization. Emphasis on industrial fabrics like mesh, 'messy'-looking construction techniques, maybe a self-contained silhouette (if that makes sense?)

Ahh, the thought is pretty inspiring, and space hits me right in the feels. There's a certain romance to it that I will never shake.

I want to build the lonesome space man. Unkempt yet stoic, his getup highly technical and draped in loose, thick clothing. A vain attempt at creature comforts. I like little paradoxes like that, it's something very human to me. His movements are trained and slow, made only when necessary but his eyes wander, always, studious, vigilant.

I'd be a huge autist for going that deep, and I'd look like one too. Fuck I'm probably projecting too, but it's still fun to muse about.

If I were to start with lunarcore that's what I want to do. Make use of what cheap technical looking clothing I can find while using the loose baggy stuff to hide any inherent flaws. Perhaps brown woolen sweatpants with that pullcord belt deal would hang over something like >>7521151

I could probably find some average orange trackpants and tinker with them a bit, wear some thermals under em so the nylon doesn't feel shitty

Knoch is more about world building than he is about fashion, imo. He's just this guy in the corner quietly building his own universe, taking bits and bobs from whatever.
I think for him the fashion/costuming is a necessary means to an end for than it is an end in and of itself.
