Hi, /fa/.

So I'm deciding on what boot I should buy for surviving the winter. I live in a cold climate, it snows a lot during some winters.
These are one of the pairs I've been checking out.

These are another pair that seemed very nice in store. Not sure they hold the same quality and they're slightly different in construction and style.

I still think I like the hope shoes more. What would you go for? Any alternatives?

The ones mentioned are more than enough for dressing up in the winter. You don't have to fight through snow mountains every day.

they look awfully cheap relative to their price

>>7521218
sneakers can be cool. there are things they do, visually, that boots can't.

still, there's something uniquely satisfying about the feel of a good pair of boots

I think it's the weight, or the smell maybe

I don't know. Because I go to school in downtown Toronto, I see a lot of really "beat" sneakers worn by people who just don't feel they need to buy new ones yet (or can't afford to). But many sneakers certainly do look better when they look like they've been properly lived in.

So I guess what I'm saying is I don't have a really clear-cut opinion on it. It would depend on the pair and the fit they're used in. For the most part I like the colors dulled a little and the whites turned to off-white. I think it's good not to let them get terribly dirty though.

(I say that because it just kills me when people don't clean their boots -- beat up is cool, because it says the boots are well-loved and have some history, but dirty just says you don't give a shit about maintaining them)

>>7521299
okay but they're the ugliest god damn things I've seen all day. the leather looks cheap, the color is awful, and it's covered in way too much contrast stitching. And that is all to say nothing of the way it pieces together its scraps of leather in the most strange ways -- what the fuck is with the semicircle on the bottom? Is it supposed to look 'modern'? They're worse than mall-tier shit. I almost didn't respond because I thought it might be a joke.

what do you see in them? what does their look evoke, for you?

To be honest I don't even have a pair. Oliberte is a company that makes all of their boots in Africa, by African workers. The materials are all gotten there, and I think the aspect is cool. As for the aesthetic look, I don't like the sole, but that's about it. I like the color and contrast stitching cuz' it's a different sort of boot from the norm.
Also, I live in a part of Cincinnati where people are sneakers out the wazoo, and spend they're checks on the newest pair of this or that. It's really quite annoying seeing fresh this and that, I like sneakers with more of a history. Plus I skate, so not too many of mine looks too nice.
