What percentage of cotton/elastane/spandex/whatever is optimal for a good t shirt?

Someone on yahoo answers said 98% cotton and 2% elastane is best because elastane helps keep the shape of the t shirt? But it seems all the more expensive t shirts are 100% cotton?
