People like film for the same reason people like analogue delay pedals: The first generation of digital replacements was made by engineers to be mathematically perfect and objective.

And it was therefore completely sterile.

Now we have digital guitar delays that emulate the sound of analogue, the same way we have digital filters to emulate the look of film.

The moral of the story is that technologists and engineers are useful but they don't know shit about making anything look or sound pretty.

I like film because there's something about rediculously stark HD digital pictures that look untrue to how you see it with your eyes.

That and its hard to look at a screen to see what you're taking a picture of when the sun is bright, or catch the delay just right.

With film you just press a button and the image snaps immediately. Sometimes you get it and sometimes you don't but when you do it really looks awesome.

You have no idea what you're talking about do you?

>Ruined by 'a little bit of moisture'
Film doesn't react to water you idiot. Getting water on film doesn't do anything to it. Not only that, but film cameras in general withstand moisture better than their digital counterparts.

>ruined by ambient temperature
You are really going full retarded aren't you. The required temperature that would 'ruin film' would likely kill your unhealthy ass in prolonged periods. Unless you mean leaving the film out in direct sunlight for days on end (even though it says clearly on the box to store film at room temparature or lower), for which I challenge you to do the same with most other electronics.

>Consumerist lifestyle
Just what the fuck. Do you see many advertisements for film cameras? No. What about digital cameras on the other hand? To use film is to be subversive to the consumer lifestyle, not submissive. Back when film cameras were the rage, you would buy a metal bodie camera, and then never have be told to 'upgrade' your camera body ever. They were built to last. Compare that to digital age where you are told that your camera, even though fully working, must be replaced by a newer model after 3 years because it is considered obsolete technology now.

>> No.7434354

>>7434349
>>7433291

>AA batteries
Only a small portion of film cameras even use AA or AAA batts. Most use button cell batteries that lasts for like a year. If you're complaining about spending 3 bucks a year to keep your camera running as an argument against film cameras when digital cameras costs a lot more and is of more inconvenience (think of how many times you have to charge it/replace batteries in a year) to power.

>film camera is a representation of disposable camera
If you actually use disposable film cameras, then yes, obviously. That is the point. If you don't want a disposable camera then let me tell you my leica that was made literally about 60 years ago works like new and still holds it's value. Let's see where your digital slr is in 60 years time. No, in fact it will literally become disposable in less than 15 years time as the value will drop to next to nothing.

weather sealing is standard on most/all DSLR's today that aren't meant for kids toys

under water cams are dslr's in bags

>The required temperature that would 'ruin film'
vegas sun in a few hours will do it

>Do you see many advertisements for film cameras?

too old, nobody bus them anymore. Back before you were alive, film cameras represented the consumerist lifestyle.

$14.99 roll of film
$14.99 processing fee +prints of all images
$5.99 extra for negatives processed returned
$39.99 for genenric fujifilm
$5 pack of batteries

the costs kept adding and adding back in the day, which is why digital took over

>when digital cameras costs a lot more and is of more inconvenience

i only charge my batts once in 3-4 months if that i do not have a battery grip/life extension

>If you actually use disposable film cameras, then yes

the cheapest DSLR in an arms length reach is a $550 canon 1100D
it has a 32GB SD card in it

the canon 1100D will take pictures on continous mode at 3 FPS meaning that i can take the equiv of a roll of film in 8 seconds.

it does NOT cost me $30 to do it.
i can "develop" those shots in 5 seconds, flip the sd card out and use Adobe Lightroom 5.0 and have them on 4chan

you can drive a riced out honda and still be shit at working on cars

you can own a nice camera and be a shit photographer

you can own a 5-zip margiela jacket or have a closet full of loro piana shirts and still look bad

im arguing over format

film is really for kids playing artist with mom's old camera she bought on a trip to disney world in the station wagon

now they're on tumblr putting digital down......it really was revelutionary when it came out.

and it is a great innovation of us middle market consumers who don't know what the fuck we're doing

no you're not an artist, no im not an artist
a canon ae-1 from a thrift store does not make you god tier at photgraphy like these kids think they are

film was just....a bad format

mirrorless is now the middle consumer tier innovation

I just lost any respect I had left for you.
I understand you're not artistic in any way, but don't be so naive as to say "film was a bad format". It still IS a thing, by the way.
As an overweight consumer of shit, you have no place to comment on artistic mediums. Sure, digital is great for taking quick photos of your trough at dinnertime to post on instagram, or to shoot some high volume job, but if you want to make a meaningful image, there's no replacement for film.
