Rather buy Seiko/Citizen or even fucking Casio than Skagen.
You guys keep telling shit about Fossil but praise Skagen as god of cheaper watches but it's really even worse quality/value than Fossil.
I am butthurt about Skagen because mine fell apart after few months of regular use, whole crystal fell off and nobody can fucking repair it cause these jews don't send parts to anyone.
It's designed in USA by danish faggots and made in China, but advertises as made in Denmark or whatever. They're even bigger jews than Daniel Wellingon.

everybody who's into watches knows most chinese watches are shit. I wear a chinese mechanical watch at the moment since I'm poor but you see, what baffles me is that those cheap ass chinese watches all have pretty solid design. and then I see watches from Festina (or Lotus), Citizen or Fossil and they mostly look like shit design wise or really boring. I don't think it's just related to taste.

>>7376398
Japanese watches like Seiko and Casio are fine. they made themselves a name world-wide. pure chinese watches can be utter garbage. I had watches stop working really fast after just arriving in the mail. and some are thrown together really fast and look a bit displaced in some areas but might still work fine. that doesn't mean they are necessarily unreliable. you can't go wrong with anything quartz.

It's unreliable & low quality but they're there to market to plebs who need a luxury fake or homage who pay real money, I've learn't that costly lesson when I bought a Breitling automatic fake from a legit pawn shop for $130 and then the Omega AT from silixprime in China for $60 or so.

I gave the middle watch away and trashed the navitimer fake watch into pieces. It looked good but I wasn't happy with it after owning it for that long. The AT bracelet was of good quality. The dial was not. I'm happy with the Invicta 9402s quality but they've ripped off the watches from Rolex.

Some Seikos & Citizens are hit and miss in quality. I'm currently looking to buy a Pulsar PU2071X1 rally chronograph and have worn that in the shopping mall. I reckon it's really nicely made as a quartz watch up close but it's pricy b/c it's over the $200 mark and you could get two chronographs from Seiko I think. Buy the watch that makes you happy.

I think you mistook Invicta for Seiko. I'm surprised you even had a good experience with Invicta, I bought an automatic and a quartz from them and they both fell apart within the year. I admit I am a bit rough and active, but I've worn cheaper Pulsars for much longer.

I can recall in my memory that the logo was unsightly when looking really close. That the blue sunburst dial was easy to scratch b/c it's like a hologram sticker. The triangle/stick markers looked the part, as was the crystal because they looked really luxurious when viewed from the side.

To recap. I wasn't happy with the logo, printed details such as the words, the date wheel and the caseback. I'd only test the waters of a fake watch if it's your first one. It was great to wear for the first year but it isn't worth it because if I had the money for the real one I'd have that one and not a Chinese auto ticker.

Yeah, what do you want to know?

I will give you one solid piece of advice:

***Be suspicious.***

Most Raketa watches will come from Eastern Europe, and most sellers from over there have a poor command of the English language. This means that they cannot give true 100% disclosure on the condition of the watch, specifications, etc. There are also some sellers that are just dishonest.

When you buy a vintage Raketa, operate on the assumption that there is something wrong with it. I would only recommend Raketa if you have experience in watchmaking. Most pieces that you buy on eBay will need some minor servicing. You may also find some "frankenwatches"-- a watch slapped together with pieces from other watches.

I bought a Copernicus from eBay, it seemed authentic enough, but when I opened it I found a Seiko automatic movement. Seiko movements aren't bad at all, but I was expecting a vintage Russian hand-wind movement. I was lucky, though, whoever made this franken did a quality job retrofitting a Seiko movement into this old watch.

So yeah, be careful out there.

>> No.7376642

Don't get the DW. Those watches are way too overpriced for what they are--Timex-level. The watch looks very nice, I admit, but inside is just a $5 movement that you can find in most Wal-Mart brand watches.

DW is just an exercise in great packaging. They put these cheap watches in pretty boxes and they throw in a cheap strap removal tool.

It's stores its charge in a spring. Before they were manually winded every 2 days or so by hand (manual) but now they have weights like pic related, that spin when you move your arm which charges the spring automatically (hence the name).

So basically, no battery, just a spring and a weight. They're really interesting.

They usually fall around the $200-300 range.

I like this one particularly , it's called a Malvern Chronograph
Yes it's a quartz movement, but when you buy a watch, you're not buying just the movement, you're buying design and elegance. Appreciate it as a whole, not by the sum of its parts.

There's also NOMOS, which make great entry level luxury watches. Get one after your first few paychecks They're based in Glashutte, you might have heard of that place, since Glashutte is where A Lange and Sohne are based.

I'm not a shill, cross my heart. I frequently check watchuseek, hodinkee and ablogtowatch, and live close to two jewelers and a watch repair shop, so the whole watch craze thing has sort of bled onto me i guess

Also
>Buying a $200 quartz watch simply for "elegance"

Despite what you may think of automatic watches, quartz movements are actually the MOST accurate movements. But of course, there so commonplace, and because it's 'basic' engienering, it dosent quite have the charm of a jewel based mechanical movement. It's also piss easy to fix. But like I said, you judge a watch as a whole, never as a sum of its parts.

btw that malvern comes in automatic movement but its going to set you back $100 more.

Check out Victorinox too, their watches may be ETA based, but the design is decent. They're not just good for knives.

>> No.7386603

And that reason is because those "Omega's" you are referring to are fake. A real Omega keeps more than 50% of its value, even if it's highly dated and that patina is growing on the dial. You'd have to be mentally insane to just chuck out an omega for $100, even if it looks like shit, or is broken, you can bring up its value dramatically by getting it serviced.

actually alot of guys on WUS are pissed they're not valuable.

but omega was not a "luxury" end brand until about 2001+ where they retooled the brand with swiss eta movts. they dubbed the "omega co-axial" or "omega 1120"

>Omega's popular Seamaster line of watches currently use an embellished version of the ETA 2892.A2, which is known as the Omega 1120. As an adjunct, some versions of the Omega watches may be fitted with the proprietary Co-axial escapement invented by George Daniels, an English horologist, and exclusively marketed by Omega, a sister company of ETA. The movement with the co-axial escapement is known as the Omega 2500 series and is derived from the ETA 2892.
