I normally just let is dry on its own, and through the day it will eventually take on the look of tamed yet a tad bit messy.

Really? Well, thanks for letting me know. I'll see how it looks if I grow it out. The problem is that while it was long it wasn't "cut long", it was just overgrown because I hadn't had a haircut in some 6-8 months and it looked like a mullet in the back and a jungle on the sides. Next time I go to the barber's I'll ask for advice on longer hair.

The only long hair cut I could think of asking for that was long was the one I see all the time that's long and pushed/combed backwards on top and a dramatic fade towards the nape, and I don't think I have the facial definition to pull that off. I used greasy as fuck murray's. Then I wash my hair with hot water several times. So the hold remains but the ugly shine goes away. Then I use a matte paste I bought. Overpriced as fuck. M paste or something. And then i comb it into position depending on how I want it to stand. Diagonally or straight to the back or something. Then the finishing touch with my fingers and I'm done.
