Thanks a bunch, very nice watches. I especially like the Junghans, a real stunner, might have to get it (or something similar) as a dress watch at some point. B&M is also good looking, a little fuzzy tho, with the tachy markings.
What I'm interested in at this point is a watch to wear erryday at the offie (and occasionally in a more formal situation), so a steel bracelet is a must. Leather stinks up so fast, I can't stand it...
Also, "plain" is a good thing in my book, it won't be out of style or whatever even after decades, and it won't draw too much attention. I tend to like simple design, clean, hard lines, simple face (like my own) and good finish. That's what I like about the Longies, plus the interesting movement and the rich history of the brand. The one I saw at the dealer looked much better in real life tho than in the pictures. Any other suggestions?

>>7245158
I did, and still do consider getting a second hand Speedmaster, it's something that I've always wanted, but the ones in the used market here are usually quite banged up, so it'd get costly real fast. Complete service + polishing would add another 1000€ so it's not really worth it, I think... I even saw an old Tudor Monarch for about 1100€, wonder how much would it cost to get it working...

Well, have to keep looking.

>>7243585
If you have a steady job, no soul crushing debt, children or other such freeloaders in your life, you can easily afford $1000 watches. It's just a matter of prioritizing your income. Plus, a good watch will last you a lifetime, so divide that $1000 / 40 years of use, it's not that big of an investment.

Sorry about the rant

It'd also be interesting to know their ages - as a Gen-Y'r, Omegas are the shit they slapped on Pierce Brosnan when I was a kid. That said, Submariners and any watch with a dial over 40mm are for assholes. GMTs, Explorers, especially vintage ones - those are the good shit.

BMWs (late model ones, at least) scream Yup (and Pierce was slapped into them), and Mercedes scream arrogant power. Audis have this utilitarian sportiness I've always dug - except the A7, way bigger than I'd ever go for, but the most elegant-lined sedan in production today. You're right that anything over 40mm is obnoxious, but I think Rolex Date, Datejust, and Day-Date models, and some Air Kings look good too.

The Dayjust II and Day Date II models are junk though, 40mm is too big for a dress watch.

Rolexes do lack a bit of style. For the past few decades, they have been sticking with their staple designs:
>Submariner
>Explorer

>etc. etc.

Just by sticking to this, yeah, Rolex lacks style. However, Rolex makes a goddamned steel brick of a watch. Their timepieces are reliable and durable.

I'm happy with my Submariner. It lacks any spice, yes, but it has been a reliable piece for many years. It has been through swamps, oceans, sand, mud, the insides of an alligator, ice and snow. I'd like to see this kind of toughness in any other watch.

That's not /fa/ at all. It's /g/ tier. It looks like a great beater watch to wear but still.. A digital watch as a fuck-off time piece? Or a favorite wristwatch that makes you happy?

If it was a generic quartz watch yes it'll cost under the $500 price mark. But it has an auto/mechanical movement inside which makes it way more dearer. But for that price instead you could've bought a pre-owned Speedy professional chronograph instead.

It doesn't really work like that. Valjoux 7753 costs about 400-500$, from Stowa propably closer to 200-250$ if that. Mechanical movement, unless some elaborate inhouse one, usually doesn't explain the price alone, there's just ton of air in the price for it being an luxury item. Also Stowa produces really small numbers.

The lower part of the strap slides right off, but the top part will need to be cut on the big part.
