When buying a jacket that's a bit long (duffelcoat, peacoat, parka etc.), what size should you buy it in? Should you take your normal size or should it be one size up?
What to do?

most people tend to size down

Size down? So like, if you normally wear a small or medium, you're probably going to fit the small sized jacket than the medium sized one?

in my case i take medium in tees, shirts and the like but heavy coats are usually too bulky so i size down one.

6'1, 140 - size small shirts, wear medium for parkas, and then get a large to put over both of those if necessary - hope that helps

What's the length that a coat like a peacoat or duffelcoat should be?

I personally prefer to have them at around half the way down the thigh, but if I'm buying in my own size they're usually hanging around the knee and look very unattractive imo.

Okay, that sounds reasonable.

Yes, thank you.
I'm about 6' 128, so I think a small wouldn't be a problem especially if the jacket model is a bit longer.
