French manicures are so easy to do on your own. Just look up a tutorial. Practice until you get it.

I learned over the years to take care of my nails by myself. I notice when I go to salons my nails/feet end up looking uglier as a result. Skin grows back thicker/dryer on feet, cuticles grow back way too fast. Used to never have that problem before going to salons. Now that I haven't been going for a while everything's back to normal.

I don't normally wear nail polishes, very rarely. I'll do a sheer light pink or a clear coat but that's about it. Looks better I think. Chipped polish bothers the hell out of me.

I take off all nail polish, then i soak my nails for like 10 minutes in soap water. After i put cuticle on and push the cuticles back. Then I moisturize/put on OPI Nail envy since my nails are thin as paper and chip way to easily.

I try to do fancy shit with tape, but 9 times out of 10 I mess it up and end up taking everything off and just going with a plain coat.

Those look bad because they're too long, the tips are too close to the bed and they weren't sanded down enough.

Being basic doesn't make it bad. Technically it's not even a french manicure. Being unbasic doesn't make nails bad either. Being sloppily painted with nail polish on the cuticle and having tacky stickers right on the surface of them does. You won't see any pro tech put stickers on without a coat of acrylic over them because it looks like a little kid's art project without it.

Some colors look tacky paired with some skintones. I'm pale and can't do stuff like lavenders, pastels, yellow, etc. I stick to bolder colors that'll pop against my skintone instead of getting lost in it. Yeah, that's probably because when you get out of the shower, all the oils and stuff have been stripped out, which is why your nail tips look white, because they're completely dried out.
But I guess after time passes they re-hydrate on their own..
Maybe you could try cleaning your nails often with a small brush or something? Then again it might be pretty unhealthy to have super dry nails haha..
