Okay.
You're gonna get your best sounds by building your own drumkits, pitching your drums down and building your own patches from multiple tones.
The MC 5's sounds get cheesy when you use them too much, so use little bursts of sound, a single instrument among many that plays only a few notes in a longer melody. Other instruments finish the expression.

Strings are gonna sound poor unless you pitch em down and layer the hell out of them. I build 10-chords with my strings. They get rich, full.
There's a track on my soundcloud called sermon that's all 505 save for a few breath samples. Check it out.

Be more specific, I'll help you out.
You gotta think outside the box with this thing, You gotta build a little world. Master patch building. Open your heart.

Get into patch editing. Patches are made by combining the machine's existing waveforms. See the 'tone select' option?
Non of the stock patches are any good. Build a patch of strings that's thick as hell and go from there.
Once you get patch editing, you'll open a new door.
Also, look in the manual for microscope mode and learn how to use it.
Next time you sit down to work, focus only on creating new sounds and saving them. Trust me.

1q84 is good but it gets really lost in itself in terms of narrative a lot to the point of frustration come end, overindulgent would be accurate if it wasn't so emotionally pure. honestly, it'll be a massive and tough (nigh impossible) read if it doesn't strike you in the first 50 pages. it's one of my favourites, though, for personal/sentimental reasons.
kafka is a half-dream bildungsroman that transcends age. comforting and beautiful and often scarily intimate, in a good way. composed and more thought out than 1q84, and can really be lived in as a novel
norwegian wood is an orange to apples here
read kafka and norwegian wood, starting with norwegian wood, then 1q84 after dipping into kafka for a bit. it's a worthwhile and genuinely fulfilling read but if he's not your cup of tea by the time you finish kafka once or twice you best not bother.

Before this thread, I always hated Trips like Poet. Mainly for their overt as well as subtle arrogance. But after reading this thread and seeing how he gives such good and comprehensive advice, like really knows what he's talking about, I'm starting to change my mind.
Its clear he's well read, good at creating music, has a decent amount of money, has nice clothes and all around seems like a cool dude.

O wait he's fucking tripping on a goddamn ANONYMOUS imageboard for the sake of gaining notoriety and satisfaction from being praised by losers who don't have their shit together. You fucking cunt that's not /fa/ or cool at all, its goddam pretentious. Go make a tumblr and toss your link in the tumblr threads like everyone else. You're not a special snowflake.

I love the anonymity of 4chan. Reading the posts in a thread is like sorting through a mental map of some great (extremely profane, racist and all too often dumb) collective consciousness. Entities inside it are bashing one another sometimes using solid, well-thought out arguments other times replying with nothing more then "u niggerfaggot:/".

Having a Trip disrupts this harmony and focuses your attention on that one post instead of viewing the thread as a whole. This snowballs because the more people that reply to that Trip, the more that Trip posts. This thread is a prime fucking example of a Trip causing unnecessary shit posting of the worst kind.

TL:DR Trips fuck up the natural flow of 4chan IMO and its a fucking detestable practice.

eta: scratch that, 'thought out' isn't accurate. 'expressed' is a better term, both are complex but 1q84 is in its own special realm of ineffable weird that defies quick description
kafka on the shore is just more accessible to the reader in how murakami portrays his thoughts. its english language edition also a better translation (imo, at least) than 1q84. there are just some ideas that can't easily cross the language boundary in that work.

Mostly by anons saying stupid shit.

>tell me again trips arent the cancer of this site
4chan is composed of millions and millions of users.
Each of them are individually shitty. Some trips are shittier than average, some less.
When a trip posts, a handful of shitty people will orbit around him, shitting shitposts.

You argue that trips increase the frequency of this shitting, when in reality the shitting is only slightly more noticeable as it's more concentrated around a few posters.

What you fail to realize that it's not actually the posters shit posting. It's people who insist on following them around shitting up the board.

I don't hate trips because I hold people accountable for their actions individually. Trips are not responsible for the thousands of idiots monitoring their every action with bated breath seeking opportunities to produce more shit.

Maybe instead of trying to uninstall tripcodes from 4chan, you should instead direct your efforts towards discouraging shitty posting habits by leading by example.

Is there a thread taking up the front page like this one because it keeps being updated by a handful of idiots arguing off-topic subjects?

Maybe instead of posting in that thread and shitting it up more, you could start another thread and dump fashion related images and thoughts.

Let's hear some of your solutions.
"I want trips to leave" isn't a solution. They're as much a part of 4chan as the name, email, subject, comment, and attached file fields.

I think lunarcore is interesting but all you newcomer fuccbois need to stop copping warriors and thinking it makes your garbage fits look decent because they make it vaguely thematic

anorak needs to post more often

I almost wish the dadcore wave would return then at least we wouldn't have this legion of nitwits thinking they're 'goof' coz they wore a black tee + black jeans

our waywts are indisputably shite on the whole and probably worse than mfa's

slavcore needs to be more of a thing

this

i can't help but think that some of these guys are just jumping on it just because it's the new "thing" instead of actually having an interest in it

i dont pay attention to lunar threads but afaik poet started dressing that way cuz hes always been interestd in space and stuff and out of nowhere some fuccbois come along and start bandwagonning

Basically.

I see some of the most jaw-droppingly stupid mentions of lunarcore. There are people that think it's a legit design movement that brands are following and shit.

these are people wwho feel it grand to go after "tripcodes" personally and sometimes lay insecurities on them and attack atttack attack like crazed dogs thus derailing thread topic and shitting on board quality.its turning the board very stale and unpleasent

>This Side of Paradise

Strong do not cop. Despite having that Fitzgerald prose, I say it's the worst book I ever read. It's got a very downer, almost Christian, view on life, sex, etc. and it fucked with my head for a year after I read it.

The plotting is also what you'd expect from a 23 year old first time novelist doing a rush job adapting an abandoned college draft less than a third of the length in order to impress a girl.

I tell people to only read it if they have to be a Fitzgerald completist and they're at a good place in life, in a loving long term relationship.
