I'm thinking about opening a fashion shop selling clothes, perfumes, misc etc..

What would i need to have in the shop to attract you handsome people?

It would be a massive undertaking and before you go about it, you need to have some sense of the aesthetic you want to portray.

Start an inspiration board, collect hundreds of images of the style you want to curate in your shop. Images from past collections, photographs of things that please your eye, scraps of fabric, textures, whatever helps you develop your aesthetic.

As for the actual store, have a well-curated selection of menswear from progressive designers, presented simply and accessibly. One or two friendly but not overly talkative staff to help if necessary. A website that is current and lists your stock, updated weekly at least. A logo or storefront design that showcases your stock while catching the eye in some way.

Here's a picture of my favorite PDX store, Machus. The layout is clean and bright, and the staff are chill. Also the music is always instrumental and non-obnoxious, which I appreciate.

>> No.7072324

Exclusivity. It's all about exclusivity.

No signs posted outside. No windows. Staff the store with a crew of deaf/mute Mongolians. Everything is prohibitively expensive, but the prices aren't posted anywhere. Have a new password for entry every day and distribute the passwords via cryptic clues left at underground music and fashion shows. All the missing information is on the amazingly clear and straightforward website; unfortunately, no one knows the url or what to search for, and the person you hired to write the website lives in cramped quarters above a rural Burmese opium den.

keep the store clean and simple. Definitely have a common aesthetic to all the clothes. My favorite stores are the ones that cater to a niche style but dont make it blatantly obvious

-if you play music loud ill fuck up your dry wall and steal your register
-carry a spectrum of things in different price points so you dont alienate people who dont want to spend 5000 dollars on jacket, but are cool with spending 200 on a jacket.
- think about what you want to sell and make the store look like that. If you want to sell dopey fuck buck NIN cosplay julius shit then make the store look like that
-make the mother fucker smell good
-dont be mean
- i am extreme danny

I want to run that kind of shop that sells the exlusive shit, not too modern nor too colorfull - But still has that one little detail that attracts the rich fuks around and about.

The shop would be clean, dark brown wooden parquett (or plastic (?)) and elegant walls though not screaming attention (that the design of the room will do, but in a charming way)

Make it feel like someplace separated from the world, you know?
I don't want to walk into a store that feels like its just trying to sell me something, sales tags and hangers everywhere. Make it liked I walked into a piece of you OP.

I want it to be a temple. Separate from the capitalist system.

The biggest problem in new stores is that you will feel uncomortable. If you are really honest about it, hire some people that will act like customers

>> No.7076012

Yup just like that
My biggest problem with stores is when they have no clear direction and clearly bend to the market and making the fastest dollar
I think you should have respect for your store, to me it is not just some place where you throw your dollars over the counter for the latest clothes
It should have the aura of a temple, of walking into a church. Not to mention its one the best ways to further extend the aesthetic world of the shop owner/ designer

I couldnt find trousers/shoes/perfumes/misc so the 3 bottom tables wouldnt have sweaters and shirts for display...

Those three tables to the left would get hit by shop lifters like mad considering that they're out of view of the main desk and because they'll have smaller items on them.

Fair enough, but cameras are just your evidence of the crime and a partial deterrent. Most of the time you loose your perp and your stock once they leave the store so having tables in view of staff is about being preventative.

>> No.7079689

Op you need happy staff who are chill. Don't have a vast opened shop( it make me feels uncomfortable). Have rick owens stuff. Make us feels like home and the desing should be a "citation" of of your location tradition.(for me, as a canadian, it would be a shack looking shop). Use fancy wood in your shop. Not a too bright shop(like every fucking wanabe fashion shop aka zara) and not too dark to show the true colors of the clothes, light is very important, use daylight as possible and do not use neons.

abstraxt is nice but it might also just being decorative art. depends which artist/work it is. You should add the artist name under it as usual. artist need credits and customers woul see who,s the artist if they like it and not think it's only forced decoration. I'm studying fine arts at uni btw. fancy people like art.

Another way to help keep the shop afloat is to be part of www.farfetch.com . This could help bring in revenue, thus keep your store open. The longer it stays open, the more often locals will become curious as to why your store still operates with such little activity and eventually, someone who has money to spend/saved up monies will come in and cop and get dat full shopping xperience.
