ITT: Everyone posts their own personal choice on watches which any barely fit into being fa. And the majority of expensive watches posted look really tacky. You could spent $100,000 on an outfit and still look a pleb.

It's a vintage Bradley handwind. Time machine or ebay are your best bets. The rectangular case is rather uncommon for these watches. Run a search for them and you'll learn how Disney has leased the rights to Mickey Mouse to various watch brands since...the 30s?

I actually bought that one to flip but I'm not exactly sure that you'd want it in its current condition. The gold plating is gone around the edges of the watch and the crown shows brass. There's a small crack @ 7:30 but it cannot be felt with a fingernail. It's running about a couple minutes fast per day.

to be honest there's probably no difference between the first two, just slightly different designs, citizen is better known but they are both simple cheap watches that run on a battery

the Seiko you posted is actually an automatic (runs using gears and rotor as opposed to battery and circuitry) so instead of a ticking second hand it will smoothly sweep around the dial - something nearly all watch enthusiasts prefer

If you like the look, I'd go the seiko just for the sweeping seconds hand, it's so much cooler to look at. Also, it winds itself as you wear it, you don't need to replace a battery

>> No.7022824

>>7022507
Yeah, I've heard of guys like that. And honestly, from a certain perspective, it makes a lot of sense: would you rather have one truly nice, expensive watch or many decent replicas for different occasions?

As for distinguishability, it's getting harder and harder to tell. To the untrained eye, they can be identical. The main differences now are quality control (this will probably always make the difference), movement finishing (you won't see finely engraved movements), occasional dial printing issues (rare these days), and post-purchase service. When you consider the price of a genuine vs the replica, is the extra money worth it?

As an example, I considered getting a replica Daytona a while back because getting an auto chrono for less than $200 from a legitimate brand is next to impossible. The Daytona replica uses the A7753 or 3LZF1 which is thicker than the genuine Rolex Daytona movement. As a result, the case is also thicker. The subdials on that A7753 are also spaced slightly farther, but not enough to tell unless you are familiar with both. The biggest external "tell" will be the layout of the subdials. Modern Daytonas have sub-seconds at 6, 30-min totalizer at 3, and 12-hr totalizer at 9 . Unfortunately, the A7753 switches the position of the sub-seconds and the 12-hr subdials. Some replicas just use the A7753 position; others attempt to switch to the genuine layout with a long train of gears that usually end up killing the movement.

If I didn't explain it all here, would the average person have been able to tell?

lol no i've never been a fan of Panerais, but I also know that most people claiming to have a fake so good you'd think it was real is just bullshit.

That said, watches that use ETA movements which can be easily obtained and ripped off then interchanged with genuine parts from the manufacturer for stuff like dials and such can pass for good... but that's so much effort...

in general I just think fakes are a fucking joke, if you need to wear fakes then you need to reassess your life.

A brand new light brown strap could easily pass for orange. But notice that the "tell" was the strap. I'm not familiar with the tells of Panerai reps, but honestly looking at those two, I see no obvious tells with the watch heads alone. With only two watches, I have a 50/50 shot if I guess and if I'm right, I get to prance around like I actually know what I'm talking about even when I probably don't. Seem familiar?

For this image, fake watch is the one on the left. One easy tell? The crownguard's circular pin. Left is poorly fitted in comparison to the right which fits perfectly.

>>7022804
Tell for this Panerai is the crown quality (look at the polish), movement(you need to look at incabloc/balance wheel), and engraving depth. Top is real. I'm glad Panerai is moving towards open caseback for most of their future watches with in-house movements.

To you being well off probably means having a house in the Hamptons, but for most people on the planet it means you can pay your mortgage and do what you want (to a certain extent) without having to worry too much about making it to the end of the month/quarter/year/decade.

Then you've got some real soul searching to do.

It's the same with fake geos, people who know what they are will look at the rest of the outfit and immediately presume they're fake... those who don't know won't give a shit.

You've got to realise it's even worse with watches, people who know their watches FUCKING KNOW their watches because it's become such a huge status symbol.

yes yes there are good fakes, but again, all they'd need to do is look at the rest of you to know you wouldn't be able to afford a wristpiece that costs 4 digits.

I don't think the possibility ought to be excluded outright simply because the item in question is fake. If a certain look of sufficient quality (as opposed to extraneous quality) is all that is required, then the opinions of others be fucked: wear as one sees fit. Isn't that something we usually hold dear? That the individual refuses to conform to the trend and breaks off to form his/her own style?

Perhaps I'm contradicting myself implicitly: fake watches and dreamboxes are more part of the trend than against it. Going by what I said earlier, where does fedora-core lie in this conversation? Whatever the case, I think it's an interesting discussion.

I have a Bapex x (W)taps submariner clone, I have no idea about the internals - only that it's a kinetic watch. The movement as far as I can tell replicates the Rolex counterpart it's trying to emulate and it's fairly subtle for being a Bape product.
