I don't have personal experience with Red Wings. It's of general consensus that they're built better than the Katas though. I just don't like how they look which makes them worthless to me.

I do have experience with Katas though. I own a pair. I really like the way they look aside from the hardware but I'll be the first to admit they're not impressive quality wise. Threw this pic together for another anon a while back.

Anyway something I just remembered is that some of the metal behind the speedhooks showed some green corrosion when it arrived. A couple speedhooks are also a little loose. If they loosen anymore it will threaten their hold on the lace. They're not in danger of falling out but a couple can be twisted in place 45 degrees or so.

Anyway it's LL Bean and I think I got these just under a year ago. I'm pretty confident I could send them back. LLB's customer service is legendary. I probably will within the next month or so just because I don't want the current problems to get any worse.

Defects considered, I recommend them anyway. I love the toe profile. Low enough to not feel #werkwear costumey and bulky enough to not feel dainty.

2. Apply some Leather Honey or other leather conditioner with a soft cloth, I use Detailer's Choice Polishing Cloth for this and all other steps requiring a cloth
3. Go do something else for a couple of hours while the leather sucks up the Leather Honey or other leather conditioner
4. Wipe down with a dry cloth, you will now have well-conditioned and clean leather, but unpolished
5. if you want polish, add polish to your shoes using a Shoe Dauber Brush or a cloth
6. Wipe off all excess with a cloth
7. Use a Shine Brush and buff your shoes to a perfect shine; this will not scratch your shoes
8. when you take them off you use some Shoe Trees to help dry out the moisture and let them keep their form

US/UK/AUS
9.5/8.5/8.5

They run a bit big, I'm normally a size UK 9 and I had to wear thick socks with them.

Minimal wear, less than 10 times but the leather is very soft as you know and they won't take them back with the slightest scratch.

I also had a grippier sole put on them by a cobbler as I felt the leather sole slides all over the place.

Love my malis. If you are planning to wear them when it's wet weather, treat them with mink oil or something (improves the color anyway) and also be prepared to fall on your ass. Also change the laces; those wore out after like a month of wear.

I thought I'd ask this here instead of starting another thread

I bought some Doc Marten Neros last year and they have held up great, but they had gotten a little worn and dirty. I bought Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam which is supposed to restore the leather and protect it. I clean the shoes off with a damp cloth, let them dry, and applied the balsam. They now look even worse than before. They just look really dark and old now. Can I do anything to fix it?

not sure about budget, i like black but am open to others.
no brogue is preferable, not cap toe, and really want a long lasting boot over quick fix.
Something for winter weather, as i live in nyc and it gets pretty snowy\slushy sometimes.

Danner Forest Heights

I really like the silhouette of these boots, but I hate how the brand name is smeared on the heel. The brand does have a good reputation for durability though. I'd just get 1000k but they get posted so often...

You can just get a thin rubber sole and heel glued on for the weather

Wrong as shit, Redwings are attractive in prettymuch every way except the fact that they're a manlier silhouette. You fuccbois are just mad you can't wear them with skintight jeans without looking like you belong on Lookbook.nu

Wear mildly tapered darkwash jeans with them and they look god tier.

Katas have shit leather anyways, and they're overpriced these days. If you want a slim boot go for Dayton's or Viberg.
