I thought the point of nopoo was to NOT use harsh chemicals in your hair. Baking soda strips all the oil right on out of it. All you really need is lukewarm water. Unless your hair starts getting stinky, then mix 1 part raw honey with 3 parts water, add a couple drops of oils if you'd like (lavender, argon, tea tree, etc), and scrub your hair with that. All ya need.

My two questions from the other thread whichw as apparently the wrong thread.

High end salon vs competent local barber shop. Are there any advantages to the salon?

I have very thick hair that seems to be impossible to control once it gets over an inch long. I get dandruff, and my hair alternates to between greasy and dry. Can you guys recommend me a conditioner and a shampoo?

How do I keep my hair poofy all day? I've tried wax and pomade and blowdrying it back with both. It always seems to fall into my face. Also my face is really sensitive to heat and blowdrying makes me sweat, so is there a negative effect of using it on cool or cold?

Haircut advice would be very welcome.
I usually ask for short back and sides and thin on the top, but after a few days my hair is as thick as ever, and the sides just stick out.

seriously your hair is way to short to do anything with it but it could also be the lighting in your room

take another pic with the lights on and we'll see what can be done for now

when your hair starts growing on top it starts to think out for a while. when you trim the tip of your hair on top it grows out better

Note: In order to get a real good looking HY the top of your hair should at least be able to reach your eyebrows

My hair is impossible to style, even the dudes at the barber shop gives up.

Hair in middle of the head falls down like it's to heavy despite not to much wax & my hair won't fold the way I want it do.

I've also had this problem.
If your hair is really thick then you need to wash it in cold to warm water and use softening conditioner and coconut/jojoba oil.

To further combat the stray hair problem, you need to style your hair while it's still damp and then use hairspray to keep it in place. Otherwise, until the hair is longer and heavier it will do that.

Yup I did it myself.

My advice is to start around the ear. Then you work from the bottom up. If you go too high, you have to shave it ALL off. Just don't rush it. Make sure you get the basic shape before going into the finer details (like getting a perfectly straight divide between lengths).

I repeat DO NOT touch the top. The longer you let it grow the faster you can get an HY

for the time being, after you fade the sides just run a little gel or wax on top and use a thick brush and comb it to sides or back

This is the best advice I can give you for now. Come back in a month or 2 when your hair is longer on top and then we can help you get an HY

I've been thinking about shaving the sides and back short and slicking it back (the popular shit nowadays). Think it will work or any other suggestions? Long hair isnt really an option because it takes forever for me and I have to be presentable for work.

I've been trying out the Mitch Reformer. It started maintaining a dry, matte look, but the last couple of weeks, it's really left a shinier finish, which really doesn't complement my style and can make freshly washed hair look greasy.

Anyone else any experience with this product, or have any other insight?
