6914918 No.6914918 [Reply] [Original]

I'm trying to find a bomber/military jacket like in the pic for the winter. I just moved to college in Philadelphia so I have no idea what brick and mortar stores are around to check them out in person, and the only one I can find that I like online is the one in the pic and it's sold out in every corner of the internet except in XL/2X. I'm probably a medium or a large.

Any suggestions?

Protip: You will never put anything in those pockets and you will look like a dingus with those epaulets. Get something more streamlined.

>but those pockets could be usef--
Up bup bup. No. Use your pants pockets.

I won't deny for a second that I'm a fucking dipshit at how to dress like a normal human bean.

Can you make any suggestions in the right direction? I usually just wear slim-leg jeans ranging from light gray to black, and a monochrome t-shirt under a button-down flannel. If that matters.

>> No.6915204

>>6915163
Whoa, whoa, don't worry about all that. I'm talking about the jacket. You sound fine, but I'm from /mu/ so your average /fa/ poster will call you a pleb sack of shit because of the flannel/shirt combo. Jackets just don't ever need extraneous stuff on them. Ever see a dude with jeans that have a billion fake fades and shit printed on the pockets and think "wow, what a chode"? Same thing applies to jackets. Go for simplicity. Imagine that jacket, just without all the extra buttons and doodads. That's a good start.

>> No.6915219

>>6914989
I don't like the jacket either, but I always vote in favor of useless pockets. And epaulets are fine on certain pieces. They add to the look, when done right.

I mean, I always have all of my pockets full. The more the better. I have audio players and my phone and wallet and keys and train tickets and coins and receipts and tissues and so on so honestly I think I'd use them, despite hearing that I wouldn't.

Although just two would probably work.

I'll just go try some on somewhere I guess.

>They add to the look, when done right.

Anything can "add to a look when done right", but the only time epaulets are ever "done right" is when they're small and minimalist and streamlined with the jacket...at which point you could easily ditch them altogether and lose nothing.

>>6915231
Reeeally depends. Obviously there are dudes who carry enough things to warrant using jacket pockets, but they usually carry around weird shit like Gameboys and knives and Ayn Rand books. That being said, if you're buying a jacket purely for utility and happen to carry lots of shit for whatever reason, then yeah, go for it.

Actually, wait, can utility belts be /fa/?

u sit on your back pockets, jean front pockets frequently dont have enuff ease 2 access easily and slash pockets like on trousers can drop items, plus both are located at a big hinge on ur body. jacket pockets frequently zip or flap shut and can be located in places where the objects dont get in the way of movement.

jacket pockets are life, jacket pockets are love

Loading up cargo pockets on your legs is not a viable option after a point because your legs are always in motion and the contents are forever jumbling around.
Having a jacket that can handle a bit of cargo makes more sense to me because even if I've got everything in my pockets, I find that after an engaging day everything but my wallet ends up in my jacket regardless of where I first stashed it. I think it's because all the pockets are so accessible.
loading up your pants pockets also destroy the fit of the pant in many cases. Personally, I find the front-pocket phone fade to be a turn-off as well. It just ruins the line, in my OPINION.

>>6915268
yea the pockets on suiting can really distort the fit whether its the pants or the jacket, best to leave the outside pockets basted shut (you heard me) and use either the interior pockets of the jacket, which are more stable, or just carry a bag or w/e

in fact that's prob why the brief case is so popular. doesn't stress the shoulder pads, gets stuff out of yur pockets... hmmm...

On a marginally-related note, I remember coming here a few months ago and some dude thought a lip balm tin fade on a dude's jeans was a "condom fade", like an individual unwrapped condom kept in a pocket for multiple months or something.

Well, you could always get one minimalist no-outer-pockets jacket and one lotsa-pockets jacket. Like, get a nice normal black denim jacket or something, and get a big field coat thing. You can easily get both for less than 100 bucks if you don't care about brands.

For the first, a Levis slim fit trucker, either denim or corduroy, black. I'd recommend denim as long as it's not pre-washed/faded. As far as I know their corduroy only comes pre-"worn in".

Dockers and Alpha Industries make pretty low-cost, decent-fitting, and durable dadcore-ish field coats (4-pocket coat). I have a Dockers one I use for outdoor work in the fall/winter and it's built like a brick shithouse and has plenty of pockets. Only weirdness about it is that the zipper's left-handed.
