I think the build quality is great, but it's not as physically tough as, say, a traditional combat boot. Up close IRL, tho? It really does look better than a picture will ever show.
They also improve as you beat them up. The white toe cap is almost designed to scuff, but the rest of the boot cleans easily and doesn't show dirt as much.
They can age nicely, is what I'm saying. Also, no visible gluing or similar screw ups on mine. Definitely feels like a higher end piece.

You obviously need a wardrobe that can support them, pulling off white boots is not an entry-level stunt. But if you've got the pieces and the plan, this can be a very powerful piece to have on hand.
OP is probably right about it being the best spacecore shoe (followed close by Field Generals & Palladiums), because what drives the look (in my opinion) is having at least one piece in your fit that really alters the meaning of the others.
Example - The look of this boot changes cargo pants into Flight Trousers, you dig? it sets the stage for the style, and in that sense it's going to let you go a bit farther with other pieces, if you deploy it right.

There aren't any hard & fast rules here, if you could figure out a look that you think feels right, then you could make it work.
I always lace them high & tight, but one could probably lace 'em halfway, loop the excess lace around the ankle, tie a knot and let your pant stack in the open top of the boot.
Jeans will probably stain these boots blue, but that's a matter of personal pref.

It was just something in the air, and I mean that. But if you want to get specific, I'd say after the Mercury missions. Those zipper-heavy suits and helmets really influenced fashion immensely for a while. Some historians have even attributed the sudden burst in the zipper's popularity to those highly publicized space suits.
As for on /fa/, I remember that one week a while back, people just started posting images and talking about this concept in really vague terms. All at once, it seemed like. I really believe that a whole bunch of people just got the notion one day, that's all. But I don't believe it's explicitly new, it's just a crystallization, improvement and condensation of previously disparate pre-existing concepts and design tropes. Not unlike 'Goth Ninja', if you think about it.
