So what is the difference between Fashion, Trends and Anti-fashion. How are they related?

"Fashion fades, only style remains the same"
-Coco Chanel

"I hate fashion"
-Yohji Yamamoto

“Fashion sighs after trends. I want timeless elegance. Fashion has no time. I do. I say: Hello Lady, how can I help you?
Fashion has no time to even ask such a question, because it is constantly concerned with finding out: What will come next? It is more about helping women to suffer less, to attain more freedom and independence.”
-Yohji Yamamoto

Fashion vs Style is pretty vague because everyone has their own notion of what they do and don't consider fashion (Ex. I don't consider H&M Fashion. Yes I know it's part of the industry, etc. But personally I believe that Fashion has to have conscious design)

How I divide them is
>Fashion
Regular high fashion brands like Burberry Prorsum, Prada, etc. That run through the standard fashion cycle. They present collections, sell to lots of stores, advertise, use social media to raise awareness, etc.
>Trends
Usually seasonal / annual, certain patterns like Tribal, Floral, Camo (I know, but the last few years it's spiked up alot) , certain colors, certain ideas (Designer brand name parodies, Comme des Fuckdown, Ballin, Feline etc) , can also be a certain fit or silhouette
>Anti-fashion
Pretty much fuck what alot of the mainstream guys do. Little to no advertising, the only advertising is done on communities that share the same ideas of Anti-fashion. Anti-visible branding. Ideas and design of clothes generally unaffected by what is "Hot" or "Trendy" at a certain time.

Needless to say, Anti-fashion is a difficult path, both for these types of designers and their followers / communities who dress in these designers.

But I love the idea of Anti-fashion. When I walk down the street, I don't want people to think "Wow, that guy is very well dressed.", I want them to be like "HA! What the hell is that guy wearing? He knows nothing about fashion. It offers alot of comfort knowing that the average person won't understand how you are presenting yourself, because context is a big part of dressing yourself and honestly most of the time I'd rather not give off the impression of trying to be "fashionable" in the popular sense.

trend/fashion are essentially the same thing. "trend" has a cheaper, more negative connotation.

do you really expect an intelligent conversation on a board that thinks brown skinned people are subhumans

I wear EGL and if that is anti fashion, let me tell you it sucks having people say that every day or even just once a week.

However what I wear doesn't have a pretend movement around it, wear it because you like it not because you're railing against the "man"

Anti-Fashion has been a strong element in some of the most revolutionary designers of our time, it's not a "pretend" movement.

Also I don't think costume play can be compared with fashion in the same sense.

I love Yohji, though I find the anti-fashion rhetoric a bit tiring tbh. Sometimes he says some 2edgy4u shit that is lauded as insightful because he's one of the greatest designers.
His success is very much the result of Parisian hegemony, the same that continues to legitimize other fashion brands.
