They're not bad at all. Especially with crepe soles they're like sneakers.
If you want boots for casual wear you can get good(often better IMO) cheap stuff secondhand/surplus.
I've never had a problem with used boots for street wear.

One thing you might want to keep in mind is the fact that brogues are harder to care for. If you have a coloured polish or cream, it will catch on the perforations and stitching, and the end result isn't pretty. Brogues are also a bit louder and tend to be a dominant piece in any fit.

I used to stay away from Nikes but the Free Trail is my favorite running shoe now.
