On campus back in uni. And once on the street in town. Meh.....it's not like anything ever came of it except I was a featured model for the photography dept. at my university. That's been several years ago now. I still have my little portfolio, though. It's good for a laugh, because photography students take some weird ass photos.

Some old man sat across from me and took my pic in a McDonald's once. The flash went off and he panicked and tried to play it cool. I looked at him but didn't react since I didn't want to embarrass him.

I think there's a truth to that.
At the same time though I think that dressing well (not necessarily dressing nice, by dressing well I mean looking good) escapes articulation for a lot of people who don't dress well. So I think you can be noticed for being well dressed without people necessarily noticing what you're wearing because they don't understand why your jeans/tee looks better than theirs.

Roughly, haphazardly sketching:

1) Its use of color is brilliant, doing the surprisingly rare thing of being overtly colorful and completely matched to contemporary times. There's no reference to e.g. prep, or any other antediluvian or style known for bold color. And, like someone else said, dat perfect palette.

Overall, the designs are simple but not at all minimal.

2) There's a non-threatening challenging and subversion going on in it, a playfulness. "Gyakusou" is (so the fashion press tells me) Japanese for "running the wrong way," and Jun Takahashi (the designer behind Undercover) is an active member of Team Gira, a running club famous for, supposedly alone among Tokyo running clubs, running counter-clockwise through the city's parks.

It's like that, in polyester and nylon.

3) There's a certain tech-in-harmony-with-nature vibe to the collection. You can see this most of all in prints and the shapes of the panels.

4) On top of all this, it's functional tech/running wear, at the top level of Nike's engineering, except the shoes. (I can't wait for flyknit-construction Gyakusou sneakers.)

5) It's the cheapest way to get something Jun Takahashi designed, barring thrift/eBay luck. If you like his work and have some use for the garment, it's almost a no-brainer.

Brummel was speaking at a different time, before the rise of the modern subculture, as a hanger-on to a royal court at a time when the idea of a cultural avant-garde was barely embryonic, before the rigid classes broke down and people needed to, could, make their own way to status and selfhood.

To dress for other people is a mistake; to dress like they're not going to be looking also is. You make your decision every day how much and what kind of whose attention you want. That's what it comes down to today. I usually try to dress so I'm ignored by the sort of person I don't want to associate with (offput or anonymity, makes no difference to me) and noticed by the sort of person I do. Probably not that uncommon.

It's really fun. It's more of a collecting thing, if anything. Most girls who wear lolita don't wear it every single day, it's kind of just a hobby imo. I only wore it if I was going to an event or somewhere it would be appropriate. It's a hard thing to commit to, the dresses are very hard to care for, only come in one size usually (no fatties allowed) and really hard to travel and eat in.
