its really all up to you man. any type of material really can work, but synthetics and tech materials can definitely play a big role. i'm not a huge fan of camo pants, maybe if it was a fairly subtle camo pattern (not so much contrast) but it really all depends on how you assemble the fit.

It's not that simple, but to answer your question, it would depend on the client and the listing.
Presence and demeanor account for a lot, too. I try to look like a human being for closings, but it's always really casual, just raws and an open, unironed shirt.

>>6788485
I think the second fit is great, looks like a more "widely acceptable" (for lack of a better term) version of your first fit that would slide under the radar in most places but still turn the right heads and set you apart from the crowd in a good way. I love the bomber and I think you should consider a closer haircut, both in keeping with the semi-militaristic roots of the style and because you look like you can work it.
I like.

I love Palladiums. The deal with those tags is this - at least on the canvas models - they put a little dab of glue to hold the tag in place while they sew it on. It's super easy to seamrip off and the holes actually look better than the branding, imo. On the canvas models the holes more or less go away as the weave or whatever relaxes and returns to its natural shape. The leather ones will have little holes that you could either cover with this stuff they sell to cobblers and upholstery repairmen if you cared enough. Personally I think that if the suggestion of a brand where there is none shows initiative in the wearer and is only visible close up anyway. TLDR - who cares?
But then there's that little dab of glue... You'll have a slight discoloration there, but after you break in the shoe it won't matter anyway. Again I ask, who cares? They look much better this way.

In Neuromancer, Gibson describes a tribe of Zionist Rastafarians who live in a small orbital cluster of their own making and grow pot for fun & profit. The whole zion Cluster also pumps out sample-based music (and keep in mind this was written in 1981):

As they worked, Case gradually became aware of the music that pulsed constantly through the cluster. It was called dub, a sensuous mosaic cooked from vast libraries of digitalized pop; it was worship, Molly said, and a sense of community.

So to answer your question, I think a lot of things could fall under the field of viable, it's more about the mindset with which you consume the music, if that makes any sense.

the big thing about lunar and spacecore is that its really not set at all as for what fits into it. its all about how you set up the outfit. theres a lot of re-purposing and its all about the context you construct. a lot of military stuff can definitely support a lunar fit, but its not the only thing that fits the bill, and too much just turns it into a milspec fit.

For example, I can sort of see these New Balances being lunarcore. But If everyone else just can't see it, I'd have to really believe that I could do it. And if someone else pointed out something about them that I didn't see, it could change my opinion.

1. It's made from a water resistant fabric that was supposedly used in RAF flight suits and gives you superpowers, blah blah. Practically it's water resistant enough for when it starts raining but I wouldn't trust it to jump in puddles or on long hikes.

2. At least as comfy as regular converses. The insole thing might be better but it's been a long time since I had the regular ones so can't compare.

3. Same as regular Converse sizing so size down one.

4. Haven't worn them much so no comment.

5. My advice is, if you buy them expecting regular Converse functionality and you like the style then you'll be happy. I wanted a heavy duty thing for lots of walking and weekend hiking and these aren't really good for that so I'm getting full blown boots, but if you've got more realistic expectations I'd recommend them.

Well, isn't all that just a natural consequence of effectively trying to imagine fits from the society of the, as poet's said, "forgotten future?" It would have pilots and mechanics, artists and executives, teachers, construction workers, architects, doctors, orbiters, the first wave of Martian colonists, and even maybe a few hundred plebs *still* stuck in Idaho supervising robots assembling nanoscopic sprockets...

I was sort of trying to get other people to start because I'm not really the one to be explicating it: I'm an admirer and sometimes miner of the style, not a practitioner. But it seems to me, and this is riffing off that "forgotten futures" notion about as much as the outfits themselves, to be at once an elegy for the never-lost world dreamed of and really hoped for fifty years ago and a practical mechanism for dealing with the shortcomings of our world as it actually exists. Not just that every fit and most of the separate pieces posted seems eminently practical, techwear par excellence if personal climate control isn't an obsession.

>> No.6796838

>>6796832
But like this: It's not cyberpunk, because our world isn't punk at all. Compared to either punk or contemporary fashion there's so little black and prints and almost no rage. But the social conditions cyberpunk talked about are bracingly familiar, and you pick up a lot of the same vibe: the downcastness, the marvelous shoddiness, the dreariness, the sense of spunk and personal potency rubbing up against its ultimate irrelevance.

It's telling that, out of that whole social palette, the fits that get posted seem to be for the people with the interesting jobs with little social power: no uniforms for the commander/mayor/CEO/Chief Social Manager of the space station, but for the pilots, engineers, whatever it was that cool T.O.S.S.E.R. acronym poet had for a fit stood for. Also no imagination of what the idle elite wear, or what the people with the truly menial jobs watching robots in Idaho wear.

And none of them are dressed like they are on the Jetsons or on Star Trek. There's no celebration or sense that they're partaking in a grand venture both humanly and materially abundant. They don't seem like heroes - cool, interesting, decent people, absolutely, but ones who could be a hero in their life as rarely as people today. Maybe rarer.

I don't know; I could be completely off-base and a lot of that sounds way more definitive than I mean it to sound.

That's a very interesting take, and it fits with Hebdige's notion of subcultural style - that it's a means of resolving internal disparities with the world at large. Specifically, that this can serve as an elegy for a forgotten future and a practical mechanism for the one we live in.

Bumping so I can think about this some more while I run errands.

yeah, i also enjoy the more humble parts of this style, we are just dressing like what we think the normal people of the (actual) space age would dress like.

Schismatrix Plus goes into this, what happens when most of humanity is casually living in space and government becomes a really diffuse and flexible concept. A single ship can become a nation-state at this point.
This book actually kind of got through to me that you want pockets everywhere on your body because bags are impractical and you're using your entire body in zero-g; hands and feet become interchangeable after a while. It's not stated directly but a lengthy passage on Zero-G CQC and various clothing descriptions left me with this distinct impression.
I think a good emotion to work with when composing a fit is "Exhaustion" (although not necessary by any means). Anon mentioned the way the look elegizes without celebrating - I think that's important. Maybe these operators aren't heroes in the same sense as today's astronauts, but I feel like they're often overworked, stressed to their limits and somehow managing to carry on regardless. There's a casual heroism to it, these people have gotten over the majesty of it all, they're simply carrying on sometimes and their clothing can show it to great effect.

I don't think there's a wrong way to do this as we're all feeling it out, so I'm gonna say yes, but I do think you need to be careful - you want to try and mash up the old and new, and keep in mind that techwear is not a new concept. Even in 1950 there was an equivalent for techwear. Maybe it was a specialized hunting jacket or a forward thinking pair of boots designed for explorers, but the way those garments grasped at the future is different than the way similarly marketed things do today. The reason why I put a lot of Prps in these fits is because they routinely do pieces that exemplify this idea of a really weird jacket that's been rotting away in a barn or an attic for 40 years. The look translates well to "Lunarcore" because it's vague enough for the other techy garments in the fit to change the meaning of what is essentially a heritage repro (in the case of Prps).
So where the real magic happens is when your fit plays with semiotics and symbols and maybe helps turn that oddly shaped hood into a space helmet for one second, or maybe the straps on your hightops suddenly become imbued with new importance. You feel me?

I don't know. probably not, but I don't think it's ever really been crystallized before in open discussion like this. Knoch does the occasional future fit but I think he's on a different wavelength. We're actually planning and doing something very specialized, as a group, over time.
To maybe further answer your question, I started getting really interested in 1970's space exploration maybe a decade ago. I stumbled across images of it in college after a series of dreams I had about the SkyLab project.
I was only really competent in music at the time, so I tried to capture it with samplers and synths and I was successful to a degree, but the important thing was that I was hammering out an... aesthetic of some sort? Even if only in sound.
So maybe I'm totally contradicting what I just said in >>6802779, but I still think it's difficult to really draw a bead on something like this just yet, even though we can fumble around in the dark and write songs or whatever, all we have now is a skeleton, a slipform, and we need to pour in more fits until things crystallize a bit more.
I think the first fits have all been pretty great, and they seem to have been accepted by the community, apart from the cries of "autism" that we all expected anyway. I just want to see more.
Turns out my light grey Julius gasmask cargos have been sitting in the post office for a week, I never knew, so assuming I can get a hold of them I'll probably have two or three decent new fits to throw on the pile very soon.

yeah he has just enough of the 'artist' part to be able to make his more ordered 'scientific' side read in a more interesting way.

now that i think about it more, lunarcore has that aspect of being hard to describe and establish rules for, but given an example, its immediately recognizable, which is a big focus of the book

In regards to this, how do belts fit in the space core profile? I'm a 29 waist and the smallest they go are a 30.

If not, are there any cargo/flight pants that do 28 waist?

Oh, hell yeah! People have been asking me to define it for a while and I usually end up with that famous judge's definition porn - "You'll know it when you see it."
I remember when I was thinking about all the different garments I tracked down for the first 3 major threads, and I was really racking my brain for all the word associations I could, then punching those words into google, shopstyle, etc. Certain things are obvious - Pilot, flight, bomber, space, etc. But then I started finding nautically oriented garments that worked with it, old running shoes and repro hunting jackets that just somehow... worked. I noticed common threads, things like sectional padding, nylon, quilting, webbing, zippers, prominent metal hardware, utilitarian colors like olive, taupe, orange and of course silver and white.
Take the vest in pic related. Styled nautically, clearly a nautical garment with front closures that harken to the things you see on rigging. It's techwear, in a way, just an older, different tech. As an anon recently said here, seafaring and spacefaring share a lot of tropes and emotional values for very obvious reasons. So pic related is easy to swap into some next-level circumlunar orbital stuff by maybe contrasting it against a much more modern white tech jacket, with green flight pants and dirtied white boots.

I've gone off for a while here, but I want to leave it on the reminder that the whole style is designed to be open ended. Subtle re-imagining of all sorts of modern workwear and techwear can go a long way.
