I was never taught as a kid and always had dingy clothes. My time in life was never a proud one.

So how does /fa/ do this? What should I do to make sure I keep my whites popping, and my 'dark' color filled clothing still vibrant and all the such?

Also, keep laundromats in mind, because I have no washer to use.

I'd say look out for good detergents. There's an infinite amount of choice these days and that for about any color imaginable. Invest in the product you wash you're clothes with and it'll pay off in the end.

Also, don't wash clothes to warm. It's best to wash em a little cold with a good detergent than overheat it and ruin the fit.

Would dry cleaning everything I wear be a smarter choice then?

What about pants?

I hear whenever my mom washes and dries them, they shrink. What's the right way to handle that?

>only wear black and white
>buy black raws and wash them once every 4 months or not at all
>hand-wash if you can
>always wash on 30°C and express if possible
>buy expensive detergent and don't use a lot
>don't iron
>don't tumble dry
it's not that hard

what am i reading

washing machines are time saving devices only, anything that can be washed in them can be handwashed and many things can only be handwashed. technique varies according to the thing you're washing but mostly you don't really do anything. cotton and linen can be gently scrubbed against itself or the sides of the bucket, without pressure, to lift stains. wools, silks, and most synthetics don't want to be agitated; just let them soak in the water until they're soaked through. take the garment out and replace the water, then replace the garment, and repeat this process until the water remains clear. you can always lay a garment flat to dry but some items will take a long time. cotton and linen wovens can be hung to dry more quickly. drying out of direct sunlight is preferred. airflow helps, so point a fan at it.
