Is this really what /fa/ thinks? Zara is shit, but diagonal zips have been around since before Rick was born and they're not even a trademark of his or anything.

In fact, Rick's a great designer, but a lot of his work consists of reworkings of classic stuff.

So what's "Rick" about that besides the zip and that it's kinda loose? Nothing. Could that fit in with Rick? Has Rick probably done a similar piece? Yeah, and so have other people.

It feels great, because a multibillion dollar corporation stocked with thousands of well paid marketing minds and cool hunters has decided my wardrobe looks good enough to imitate several hundred thousand times over and sold to the poors for $200 a pop.
Personally, I'm surprised it took them so long. Am I threatened? Of course not. Have you ever compared Zara counterfeits to mainline designer pieces, side by side? They're from different planets, and IRL you don't have some design school reject following you around with photoshop & lightroom in order to make your shitty polyblend look like NyCo or silk.

/fa/ hates them because they rip off high-end fashion designers quite a bit (meaning they're commercializing fasion that /fa/ thinks should be exclusive to richfags).

obviously you get what you pay for and the quality isn't great, but it's no worse than any other mall-tier stores.

they have some good basics and at least their cloths aren't made for people shaped like refrigerators like most retailers.

hello diabetes

everything has sugar in it.

that whey protein, is from walmart, its not whey protein it's chocolate shake MIX with whey in it, only about 19 grams a serving for the 23-35 grams of sugar in it,

nesquick is pure junk food

quaker oats are not whole natural oats, it's steel cut oats processed much like white flour and sugar added to it hence "quick oats"

he is honestly ingesting several hundred grams of simple carbs in the form of processed sugar and white flour

creatine is fine, it works and taken in correct dosage is not harmful. Just use micro-release formula, as there is no need for loading or cycles, though cycles are still encouraged.

go to sprouts organic foods, and buy organic oats-whole bulk food

it's cheaper and not processed.

I eat them for breakfast with agave nectar (less than half a table spoon), skim milk soaked over night, and shredded green apple.

you can also buy whey protein at the bulk food section as well, no sugar, no filler like that GNC or walmart brand crap.

I cut mine with a little soy protein so it's easier for me to ingest (Asian).

Yakult once a week/everyother week if I need it, even though high in sugar, helps regulate with whey protein rich foods.

natto, and brown rice, quinoa in there as well, raw spinach salads

just because you're eating "healthy" or working out doesn';t mean you get to eat crap food all fucking day

The thing about self-publishing, for a number of stupid reasons that nonetheless turn out to be valid anyway, is that almost nothing put out that way will be taken seriously. Or at least nothing book-length.

An "indie" sensibility never really developed, probably because publishers aren't as big of dicks as record companies. Also probably because writers tend to play their conflicted egos out less on the world than musicians.

So you get a sort of self-perpetuating cycle: despite everyone knowing that most good work doesn't get published, and that what does out of it is near-arbitrary, no one wants to self-publish, because the only people who go ahead and self-publish anyway are the clueless who've usually taken Twilight or pulp romance novels as their model and turn out stuff that's sub-pulp, and no one wants to get lumped in with all that.

It's terrible, and kudos to you if you feel like bucking it, but it'll be received completely differently than putting out your own music.

And sorry if you know all this already. But count on at least one download.

iirc creatine in the body in regards to metabolic work provides a more effecient means of transporting energy - effectively ensures that their are few 'hick-ups' during ATP binding - acting to supplment the cross bridge

the question is that how does orally ingesting creatine work the creatine into your muscles...

there aren't dedicate creatine transporters.
i would think it just breaks it down into other molecules (prob sugars) and takes it as glucose opposed to creatine

I was always a runner and a cyclist (altho on&off) when I was younger, and since I'm naturally very thin I probably have an easier time showing gains.
I tried lifting briefly in my 20's but I didn't have the drive for it, I was still a really irresponsible person and I think you need to change your whole way of life if you want to do it right. Eat clean, little-no alcohol, cut out sugars, eat regularly, quit smoking (or at least cut down/switch to vape). Discipline.
Most noticeable diff? I don't recover as fast as I used to. I have the occasional joint pain, but those have gone away as I've built muscle.
TBH I'm probably in the best shape of my life right now. I might have had greater endurance when I was running cross country as a teen or biking 30+ miles a day in my 20's, but right now I just feel healthy and capable and... better than I ever have before.
I think it's what you make it. I certainly don't advise aging without making exercise a part of your life. I know loads of people who look nothing like the vibrant, thin, beautiful people they were ten-15 years ago - They gave up, they kept eating shit and doing nothing, and poof! It catches up.

Honestly, I'm so tall and thin I feel like I've always been at an advantage for XC. I was never serious about sport - I usually just skipped as many practices as I could and did the minimum. It was something I had to do in the school I was at. I did much better as a sprinter, actually.
With the exception of paintball, biking, skating and running away from cops/people/problems, I've never been much for sport. I'm surprised I love lifting as much as I do. Don't be, have you seen the world we live in? It's really hard to do things the right way when everyone else is taking shortcuts. Especially in school and sport? Everyone is doing drugs to get ahead, and seeing as how your grades can determine your college and so on and so forth, it's just a mad rush sometimes. Succeed or minimum wage, right? My original intent was to illustrate Zara's own awareness of its status as a downmarket replicator of high fashion originals, but I really didn't have the energy or the citations, to be honest.

The basic model that drives all fashion retail involves making garments and selling them for more than it cost you to make them. Simple, right? The trick is to do it again and again, every season, never failing, always in the black. This is hard! Even though some designer somewhere will always manage to come out of the season with a profit, it's not always the same guy (obviously). You could make bank one season and flop the next, right? But somewhere, someone is making a profit in the fashion industry. If only there was a way to feed off of that one, ever-changing successful designer of the season...
...And so Zara comes to the table with a new approach. Instead of hiring designers, instead of shooting for a unified vision and taking risks, Zara lays in the cut each season, waiting for the cream to rise to the top.
When a design hits it big, Zara tells its pattern cutters and a small army of unter-designers & lawyers to copy it. The entire counterfeiting process, from the moment this order is given to the moment the garment hits stores? It happens in under 2 weeks.
The build usually involves cheap polyester, slave labor and deceptive fabric treatments that come off in one wash. But in-store? In store, it's the designer dream, for less money.
As far as i'm concerned, this sort of lie is only a hop, skip & a jump away from payday loans, cash 4 gold, rent-a-center and all the other false bargains that the aptly named "Poverty Industry" uses to dupe the lower half of the tax bracket out of every last penny they can muster. It's a shameful business model and I despise how every season, it turns the lifework of a different creative soul into a few empty dollars and laughable fits.

That is all.

The crazy thing about people buying Zara is that it's also the most expensive fast fashion retailer, if you count out stuff like J. Crew and AllSaints, and IMO the one that executes its pieces the least well. Every one of its pieces that I've looked at seems off somehow in a way that even H&M doesn't, and did back even when I didn't really know the score. And H&M is usually half the price.

Add Uniqlo, which isn't very original but as far as I can tell isn't blatantly copying people and does some interesting stuff with materials, into the mix in the same price range as H&M and I just don't understand what people see in Zara.

Like look at the way this shirt blouses out on their human model shot in a studio. Who looks at that and decides it looks good?

'soft' and 'hard' are only cultural delineations. Some cultures use opium regularly for generations and do just fine. In other cultures that makes you a hard drugs addict. With some exception, drugs are drugs. Be honest - societal acceptance doesn't REALLY turn a drug into a supplement.

Definitely William Burroughs' "Junkie", and "Naked Lunch" is basically a long prose poem about being an addict and having to hustle. Burroughs had a son who died young but wrote two great books - "Speed" and "Kentucky Ham" (Ham is about early rehab in Lexington KY).
Jim Carroll's Basketball Diaries and its sequel (I think it's called "forced entries").
Bukowski's Factotum is a great look at the life of an alcoholic loser.
On the dealer side? Look up "Aint No Makin' It" and "In Search of Respect".
There are a lot of great junkies in old Iceberg Slim novels that are spot on.
Then there's a book called "Speed Culture" that's hard to find but very fascinating. All about the proto-meth scene in the 60's and 70's, as well as fun facts about how many of the 20th century's greatest achievements were driven by oceans of amphetamine.

I just sort of went through life accepting that I would never be able to look a certain way, and so lesser incarnations really seemed like a good idea for a little while.
I would hit sample sales and clearances and whatnot but I really felt like I didn't deserve to drop a grand on one garment, even if I had the money on hand. Like, I couldn't wrap my head around it and yet I wanted the look, so badly.

I get the "assuming designer clothes aren't for them," and honestly I personally still have a hard time seeing myself dropping a grand on things, to a large extent because the kind of stuff I want mostly tops out near a grand retail and I know I can get it somewhat cheaper.

Which is kind of what I really don't get - one drop of thought and ten minutes of Google will land you at a website where you could get a shirt in exactly that style made to measure out of cheap black cotton for $20.

Similarly, at least to me, the cheaper fast fashion retailers seem to actually produce better clothes than Zara. It's the thoughtlessness, or the lack of attention, that leaves me befuddled. Designer clothes might not seem to be for them, but good clothes, doesn't that at least seem possible with a bit of savvy and effort?

I think companies like Zara & AllSaints serve as the only portal to designer fashion many people are even aware exists. What these guys do well is curate looks. They take the guesswork out, you know? They enable the clueless to look less clueless by presenting people with an option they would not have chosen on their own. Zara/H&M/etc boils it all down, packages it for you, makes it easier to shop. I mean, have you ever been to a real balls-to-the-wall sample sale? It's madness! It's intimidating! How do you even choose, let alone try it on?

>> No.6733380

>>6733295
Well, most people aren't anywhere near sample sales, so that's not what I mean.

I get that most people are only vaguely aware of high fashion - it wasn't that many years ago I was getting excited about an H&M coming to the semi-flyover state capital I was living in at the time. But it wasn't just because, hey, Swedish, it must be cool! But mostly because it seemed like it offered a fresher, more modern source than the other stores available. To put it a different way, it seemed to open up new choices.

And I guess that's what I don't get about Zara, over and above anything else: I don't really see the point of fashion if it's not something I've "chosen on my own," or at least if it didn't feel like something I chose on my own, put some effort and discrimination into. Even when I've hard fanboyed stores or brands it's been about specific pieces, never something ripped out of a lookbook or editorial. I've always found it easier to sweat the details and have an opinion than not, personally.

And when there's pop-rap songs hyping thrift stores, the ability to get understanding and alternatives on everyone's desk, a metric fuckton of casually done fashion journalism, etc. I'm just left wondering where people wind up caring enough to shop at Zara but not caring enough to put in some cheap sneaker rubber and Google searches.
