Not really. From my point of view, clothing should have a functional purpose, the exception being with high fashion.
Casual fashion should be based on giving the perception that you aren't trying hard to be fashionable. That's why "lived in" clothing looks better, and why dull colours are often more desirable.

Nature has it's own laws of aesthetic. Meaning, to an extent, doing things for function often results in things looking good. Of course this isn't always true, as you need to intervene a little (nature can't always choose the right silhouette.) Anyways, a bag with nothing in it gives the assumption that you're trying too hard to look fashionable without being functional.
