You can tell if it's a fake through subtle differences in the lettering, the brim and inside of the hat. The lettering is usually the biggest giveaway, and can look downright ugly at its worst, but most are decent.

It's worth getting a real one just for the street cred, knowing you have a real one, and build quality. People will give less respect if they know you have a fake, but if you don't know people who are into streetwear though it doesn't matter.

Real ones aren't too hard to find. Never buy from an ebay seller that has them in bulk unless they are trusted. Words like "hip hop adjustable fashion baseball cap" are big giveaways to fakes as well. The actual supreme webstore is down until fall, so you'll just have to look around. There's a dedicated supreme subreddit if you're interested enough in copping a real one.
