Depends. I'm considering buying a pair for several reasons. Mostly because I intend to use them for /asp/ shenanigans. Other reasons because I like to dress on the eccentric side and they look more comfortable than Vibram's five fingers, more color options too. I've currently sent a letter to Topo asking about how durable they are. Typically I sport some Feiyue martial arts shoes but those have a life span of six months.

But I digress, the function of the shoe would entirely be based off the entire ensemble that you wear and how you wear it. I would try to avoid dressing like a runner though. Maybe you could pull off some alternate denim pants? Red jeans would be nice depending on the color you get. There is a blue pair of the training series I think. Would look nice together I believe. What do you usually wear? Or at least what would you wear with it?

I've got a low boot version of the standard workman's boot, which I got looking for a low canvas non-lace boot that was minimal/barefoot. I was mixed on the toe at first, since it was incidental to the breathability and silhouette goal I had, but I've gotten attached to it; I think it was mostly stupid worry about how it would be perceived. Which, bizarrely – women love it and men tend to not notice it for a while and be indifferently bemused when they do.

They're also a Margiela specialty, which makes so much sense. AFAIK, their current offerings are just womens' heels and dress flats, but in the past they've done the standard boots in leather, thigh highs, Tabi "Converses," etc. I'll dump some later.

I'll also post some links to different options.

My style is probably closest to techwear, and I think they're a natural fit, but please no "ninja" shit. They're workboots. Ninjas never wore them any more than they wore drop crotch shorts made of Schoeller fabric.

Durability of mine is comparable to Feiyue, i.e. bad on the soles decent on the uppers. I haven't done anything to beat them up more than running, but I can't see it as a problem: I got mine for $25 ish shipped (and, of course, Feiyues are even cheaper) and they're constructed so (I think) I'm going to be able Gorilla Glue on a Vibram sheet when they do wear out.

Also, as I read it, the Margielan interest in Tabi boots consists in large part of the way they fuck with normal human shape, what we expect feet and shoes to be, all the while also being derived from construction worker clothes. Fucking with forms, especially forms rescued from the edges of time or fashion, is pretty much the Margiela M.O.

I found these just now, which makes me take back the clear heel ones as being the most Margiela. These are leather made to look like concrete, and each one is individually and uniquely spray-painted. If I was someone who would wear these, they'd be insta-grail.
