long coats are one of the best examples of "fit is king." you need the proportions for it. if you are shorter and wider (not necessarily fat, if you are athletic too) you will look a lot better in a boxier jacket

Since we are one the discussion of coats, what does /fa/ think of top coats? I feel like younger guys can wear them because they are slimmer/shorter in most cases than overcoats.

OP, an overcoat is not a bad general idea but don't get one like that -- it's too boxy and it's too long. Get something much slimmer, maybe with a little bit of shape, that stops above the knee.
