Yeah, minimal wave is pretty effay.

Autumn - Not Afraid To Die
>Belgian, 1981, sample is from a reissue from 2011
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6ojapGrxcM

Schleimer K - Cold Sounds
>British, also 1981
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THkgHR7bRgA

XEX - Soviet Nervegas Attack
>American, 1980
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3JLVqHQR3Y

And for some truly awesome modern minimal wave.

Linea Aspera - Synapse
>2012, British, uses actual equipment from the 80s but recorded way better than the ones above, giving a much more creamy and lifelike sound.

One of my favourite releases this year is from this irish (?) dude who records and releases under the name of The Cyclist and he released a new album this year by the name of Bones In Motion. The music itself is close to Actress in some ways, even though his work is more house orientated, more lo-fi and definitely noisier, albeit not as experimental as the latter. It was released on Matthewdavid's label Leaving Records and it went out as a Tape/CD/2LP release. I copped the tape but I dunno if it's still available because it being in edition of 300. Great release regardless.

One film I saw which I assume you've all seen or heard of at least but which I still recommend is this documentary by Werner Herzog, called The Cave of Forgotten Dreams. I didn't get to see it in 3D or in cinemas when it came out, but it's still an amazing film to see. If it were narrated or helmed by anyone else, it wouldn't have the magic in it that Werner brings, his narration and view is astounding and amazing.

Mine's pretty far away from that genre, I really, really love Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Volume 3.
I have never heard a saxophonist put this much emotion into his playing as he at around 6:30, I nearly cried when I heard this the first time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra-EsJpkG9o

>> No.6540903

>>6540896
I really need to give that another listen. He's amazingly talented and I wish there were more saxophonists to put work out like Colin does, even though I feel it might not compare. It's amazing to think a lot if not all of his songs are done in single takes.

>> No.6540940

>>6540903
Haha yeah, he's fucking amazing. I only started listening to him after I found he was the saxophonist for Tom Waits. Then I saw his performance of Judges on Q and I was blown away.

Another stellar 2013 album is Jon Hopkins - Immunity.

'Lemon is the story of the passionate love between a man and a citrus fruit, told with a fluid mixture of prose, drama, and about twenty pages of rhymed couplets. Krauser's inimitable style is at once richly convoluted and light as air. Krauser has also written the plays Wall Street Made Simple and Horrible Child.'

One of the most interesting little novels I've ever read.

Does anyone know of any good sort of big band jazzy style groups? I'm looking for something that's similar to Fitz in the Tantrums or Beirut with more speed and jazz.
