i like the crepe sole so much more than sawtooth, more comfortable, and it has the dope staple detail, which rust and look sick

i don't get the success of either geo beyond being extremely accessible. i don't dislike em either, it's just that they're hardly the crux of his world, haven't been on the runway for years, and imo a big part of their success is that you can wear em everyday (nothin wrong with that lmao)
i noticed that the upcoming and much delayed frag is gonna be civet and easter lilies, which sounds like an alt af chanel no 5 tbh; musk and flowers. and that kind of exemplifies not only where rick is going, but what he's really been all along. more couture reappropriation than deferential punk/metal/biker nonsense

idk its really tough for me to say what he really has been or hasnt, i think his work is fairly genuine. i mean he wears this stuff every day, it doesnt get more real than that from a design pov.

well, i wouldn't say rick or, say, junya watanabe are better/more skilled than one another for example, they're far beyond the level where skill has plateau'd. but i definitely think that the design on the whole is more sophisticated than what we saw before. compare anything from the early 2000s to mountain or plinth and it's obvious how far he's come.

i think rick has much more resources at his disposal and a much better design team and access to specialists than he used to, and that clearly shows. His shows are much more produced now and have much more overall cohesion and theme in my point of view.

but i definitely disagree that those are things that make his collections more sophisticated, honestly i think he has done several collections before mountain or plinth that i definitely would not describe as less sophisticated (technically or thematically)

half of those designers dont do very heavy distressing on their stuff. its just a personal preference of mine, ive always liked clothes with lots of imperfections and wear so i guess i like when designers do it in a way i like.

to me most of fashion is gimmicky regardless, very few garments have mostly utilitarian details. its more a question of what type of gimmick you like.

I've lived in Manhattan for several months. Once I saw a guy in full goof with geos. He looked just like the war correspondent from Das Boot, pic related. The next day I saw him again and he was going full workwear.

Another time an acquaintance I was with randomly said "that guy is decked out in mad Rick Owens," but I had a horrible headache and nausea at that moment so I didn't turn around to look. I hope it was that same guy.
