really depends on what you need. desert mali are more formal than dbs and will require clothing to match. Obviously not suit formal, but more like dark blue or black jeans versus light blue difference in formality. dbs are more versatile and can fit more casual wear. Rather than adding to the formality of black jeans or such as the mali might, the db will detract and force the black jeans to become more casual.
I think the malis would work a lot better with thicker clothing as well, so it'd probably be better for a winter boot while the db would be better for your summers

Hey, I had those. Same colour and everything. Unfortunately, I was 14 years old and wore them combined with beige manchester pants and a colourful polo shirt only suitable for african immigrants (which they look great on). As a pasty, white child I looked like a mix between a b-boy and a popper from the '80s though.
Saying this, the shoes are still great. The white area gets a bit grey from dust, but the mocha was never torn or discoloured.
