Just a general raw denim thread, being as I'm a bit new to it. Bought a pair of Levi 501's in February and have worn them to work every day since being as I work in a factory that requires a lot of physical labor and so far the fades are noticeable but nothing extravagant but I do need a bit of help /fa/.
1. Are these raw?
http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=21men&Category=m_bottom_denim_skinny&ProductID=2038996018&VariantID=017

2. For better fades (aiming for higher contrast) does /fa/ prefer to pre-soak before wearing or wear for a while and then pre-soak?

Standard- Treated, some denim is washed out before it even hits the shelf. Typically comes with a factory made artificial fade.

Raw denim- Untreated, allowing the wearer to over time, develop their own unique fades based from how they are worn.

raws and literally that - raw jeans that will conform and contour to your body and movements over time (hence the not washing them)

>> No.6455667

I was so close to buying a pair of raws but in the end I just went for some "normal" prefaded ones.

As far as I can tell, they'll be like wearing cardboard for a few weeks, leave blue ass marks everywhere, die your skin and shoes and other clothes blue, get smelly after not being washed for a year so you have to put them in the freezer and shit, then after you finally wash them the end goal is for them to basically look like the prefaded ones you could have bought in the first place.

I just want some pants, not a project. I usually just get dark washes with a bit of fading and they wear in really nicely. And if you pay a few hundred bucks the fit is always great anyway. Are raws really worth it?

weight is more of a feel thing than a sight thing. companies measure denim in oz/yard of fabric. 15oz is pretty standard for most denim, under that is lightweight is is good for summer but not so much for high contrast fades. most denim doesn't get much heavier than 32, which is almost a novelty weight (they can stand up on their own).
