It's fine that everyone has opinions about the looks of these shoes, but it's pretty ridiculous that people are judging how "comfortable" or "functional" they are without having ever seen them in person, much less tried them on.

Why design a non-running shoe when you advertise the fact that you want to start running (Rick may not have advertised it, but hypebeast did)?

Why collab with adidas in designing non-sportswear?

>> No.6406016

>>6405970

I bet if he had just released a running shoe on his own, there would be a throng of whiny posters who would make complaints like: "Why would he do this on his own? Why didn't he go to someone like Nike or Puma that knows how to make running shoes?"

>> No.6406010

>>6405970

Hypebeast didn't "advertise" it. I'm sure they sent out a press release and Hypebeast just ran a really long story about designer activewear that just happened to get lots of exposure.

>>6405938

He's saying that he could have made bags, but he made bags with Eastpak to produce a very specific product using their manufacturing capabilities. Rick has manufacturing in Italy for things like casual shoes and boots and whatnot, but given that he's never had any factory that does technical athletic wear, doesn't it make sense to go to someone who has those resources available for you?

this is where i was laboring towards. rick's footwear factory probably does not own the equipment to make the soles this collaboration uses. rick went to adidas because he wanted to riff on the idea.

>> No.6406039

>>6406029

That's splitting hairs. And what a person chooses to do with their shoes is their own business. The designer made what he thinks of as a running shoe and to parse it further than that is pointless.

>> No.6406045

this makes more sense

still silly that someone would use running footwear material on something that will never be run in

>> No.6406049

>>6406033

It's just not a cost-effective approach to designers to form production contracts for every single item they use in their shows. Why does LD Tuttle make shoes for complexgeometries, Helmut Lang, and VPL? Why does Comme des Garçons use The Generic Man and Pointer? Why does Junya work with Tricker's? Why does Aldo have its RISE program? Because many fashion companies don't have the time or resources to produce every single item they need when putting on a runway show.

Right. Yes, I'm 32.
32 and self employed and a homeowner in NYC.
And I wear sneakers, and I have an xbox and an old NES and an Atari in the other room, and I have a plastic robot on my shelf. I also have some comic books.

You see, the thing I like best about being an adult is the freedom to live how I want, dress how i want, and not have to answer to anybody. That last one is especially important, and it's why I insist on self-employment.

In my book, success means doing whatever the hell you want and still making money.

'Acting your age' is something you do when you have to, because you have no other options. When there's a B&E in one of our buildings or there's a toilet emptying into someone's living room at 4 am because the asshole upstairs decided to unclog his potty with Drano, that's when I act my age. When I pay for a vacation or a dinner in cash, I act my age. When I do my accounting and pay my taxes, I act my age. Other than that, fuck it, you know? Let's have fun!
