Just finished scrolling through Haider. I have to say, I like this more than his first showing at Pitti a while ago. Vibe-wise, his strong silhouettes evoke the sort of rugged, but romantic masculinity that I associate with folks like Juun J. It's tailored and trim but equally relaxed and (for how stylized his look is) relatively unfussy. I've always hated a lot of silks and things like that for guys, but Haider does it with such a rich, deep touch that it reads very modern to my eyes.

Interesting to see that there's less drape for the sake of drape in the Julius show. The strong squared-and-flared silhouettes aren't exactly new for them, but there's an added crisp finish that does feel like a different take on his usual thing. The little shot of print was nice, but it felt like too little, too late to explore it properly on the runway, but maybe it's more fleshed out in the showroom.

i liked plenty of the colors, and even the cutting on some of the lounge pants, but in general, the tailoring, especially the work on the shoulders, is just precisely the opposite of what i admire. it might be dismissive of me to call it bad, because there's clearly a lot of skill being demonstrated, but it's not something i'd wear and i don't think it's very forward looking; it's actually very dated on a lot of aspects.

I think if you look at how Haider dresses, there's clearly a way to take this apart and wear it in a less exaggerated way. There's easily three or four layers going on in many of these looks. Look at the last look with the vest, which is much more stripped down and everything reads a lot cleaner. I think the styling isn't as on point as the women's, but I'm more than willing to wait for that to catch up.

I see similarities in result, but very different motivations. Rick's distressing is usually about creating a sense of comfort, about breaking things down so they feel familiar and lived in while Horikawa's approach is about giving it added textured and depth and richness. The waxing and washing and so on actually make the fabrics feel heavier and more worked while Rick's effect creates a lightness.

They're calling it an "Archive" collection. It's close in method to DRKSHDW vs. Rick Owens, but much more about examining past pieces and sort of giving them new contexts and whatnot. They didn't show it at all for spring, apparently, so I want to know if it comes back.

I just don't know anymore /fa/. I've been into fashion for a long time, following trends, blends, and what have you, and I've really enjoyed it, but this whole thing is just really wearing thin to me.

I mean, I just can't shake this feeling lately that all recent fashion shows have just been designers throwing together whatever design they can think of in a pinch that hasn't exactly been done before, and I feel like anyone could do what they do now.
