I agree that "art" is a misnomer. I think "showpieces" is the right word for it given that they're part of what is, essentially, a performance that's somewhere between a commercial display and a creative presentation.

runway stuff ranges from easily wearable (above) to more conceptual things that a lot of people look at more in terms of idea than things they would wear in full. or incorporating one piece

I agree with you on that one, level headed though open minded.

Many of these creators would express themselves very powerfully through sculpture, but they somewhat prefer the glamour of high fashion.

many things in runway presentations are not meant to be worn or sold but are presented as an artistic / creative display. it's not that hard to understand.

I don't think you can could necessarily translate expression from fashion to clothing. they are different technique-wise, and fashion is unique in that people are wearing what you make, clothes are tailored and cut differently, altering perception

What would you say is that difference? How do you define what is and isn't creative?

Also, I guess it'd be interesting to know where you're coming from, what clothes you like, what design you like, etc.

What do you define as "random" colors? Many designers have palettes that they use to organize their whole collections. Other designers draw inspiration from specific things that define what colors they'll use.

What are these "glaciers"?

Headgear is kind of subjective, given that it's kind of ridiculous that brides cover themselves in lace veils and shit and we don't blink twice. It's just a form of styling to convey a message or theme on a runway or in a presentation.

Did you have specific examples of non-fabrics used in an "excessive" way?

The runway allows them to take ideas to extremes and be more artistic. you need to understand where the designer is coming from, instead of looking at everything you see in terms of "would I personally wear this." designers will draw from many influences

here for example there's a focus on extreme tailoring, to the point where it morphs the perception of the garment. this also produces effects w/ the patterns and colours
