Hey /fa/, this is a shitty picture, but basically I'm a girl looking for this kind of silhouette. Should I wear actual men's clothing, or should I stick to women's clothes made to imitate this sort of style? What sort of shoes should I wear with this kind of look? Thanks.

> Should I wear actual men's clothing, or should I stick to women's clothes made to imitate this sort of style?

Wear women's pieces that work if you find them, but I think going with men's clothes and taking them to a tailor (for quick, simple fit adjustments - length, waist, etc.) is your best bet.

>shoes

Obvious answer is leather bluchers with soles and heels of the type commonly seen on Menswear. The ideal place to head for this would probably be Paraboot. They're somewhat pricy, though.

Wear them without socks.

You've got a ton of things you could do with this, though. Virtually any kind of boot, although personally I'd avoid combat boots, vintage-style or present. Not too feminine, more loafer-styled flats or just straight men's loafers would be perfect, too.

A style like this really gets modulated by the shoes so much, so it really depends on what you're trying to signify. Imagine that fit with a pair of brown calfskin bluchers with a hiking sole, a pair of red stilletos (pretty sure you don't want this, and it'd be my least favorite of what I'm listing, too), simple leather sandals, a pair of traditional American Red Wing style workboots, with RM Williams style workboots (this one's probably my personal favorite), engineer boots, a pair of simple European trainers, etc.

As far as where to cop, Dickies, Carhartt, any workwear company that sells coveralls. Not sure where you'd fine one in a bit better fabric than cheap poly-cotton

And to appease the guy insisting we talk about clothes that aren't coveralls that have the silhouette of coveralls, well, other workwear. My first instinct would be to look at Filson for a shirt-jac top with a super lightweight, dark and drab merino tee under, tucked into Mountain Khakis for the bottom. Patagonia would be another place to look. A fit with Outlier Keirin Cut dungarees could be really interesting.

J. Peterman almost specializes in full, flowy cut women's pants. A quick look shows this season they're making linen overalls that'd go great with this. Their men's line is also cut very traditionally, for the most part. I'll dump a little off the site. They've got kind of an ill reputation, and quality ranges widely, but some of their stuff is great. I'd compare them to a dadcore AllSaints: often strong but not brilliant or original designs, decent but variable quality, always buy on sale, etc. etc.

Thrift shopping could also pay off quite well here - there's always so many big, relaxed fit men's pants around, and often a lot of shit-jacs too.

>> No.6371179

I think you'd be better off sticking mostly with womenswear, but you could use some menswear, it just might be a bit awkwardly fitted.

Yohji's already mentioned but is maybe the best place to look for inspiration.

Shoe-wise, I think >>6371138
is pretty bang on with the loafer suggestion, although I don't really know where would be good to cop.

Prada might be worth a look, I remember an exhibition I went to had some stuff that could fit with this look, albeit more severe and not really drapey, i dunno if you're into that.

Who's that from?

These are cords from the men's collection that look like they could do well. Howard Yount does sophisticated, somewhat traditional cords, but I think they're all in a relatively modern, tighter cut. OP's talking the look of men's clothing from the '40s.
