inb4 Trolling: this is a geniune interest of mine, so please normal answers.

I'm not sure if it's the good forum. /lgbt/, (AKA: /mtf/,/cd/) would hugbox, and /b/ would just troll.

So when, if ever would unbifurcated garments (skirts, kilts, robes, dresses) enter into mainstream acceptance? Could they ever be fashionable? What is your opinion about men (for whom it's not cultural i.e. not Scottish, Indian, etc., and not crossdressing) wearing kilts and/skirts?

Also male heels. Would they get ever accepted?

Speaking from experience, women's skirts right at the waist would work. Try it up yourself, and choose a model that is not form-hugging, maybe pleated or twirly (sorry about bad English, but I think you might know what I wanted to convey).

No, I was asking mostly about this from the historical perspective. As recently as the 70s, high-heeled shoes and platforms have been worn by men, but there have been various periods of history where men wore heels and other items that would be considered "feminine" by contemporary standards, which is why I ask.

I don't agree with you, of course, but I just wanted to see if you knew about the larger historical context I brought up.

skirts yes. you just need to use masculine cuts (straight lines, wide pleats (not as in pic), possibly heavy fabric) and it looks manly as fuck

besides kilt (which is technically not a skirt, but looks like one), it was also worn in balkans; see fustanella.

heels - fuck no, not even for women. it's just some strange custom that started when aristocrats wanted to look taller, and both men and women did it at first. it's bad for feet, and i much more prefer normal way of standing to the strange pose a woman makes when she has high heels on - she looks like a cow because heeled shoes behave like hoofs.

Drkshdw cargo pods look pretty close to skirting, and can be a good halfway point in my opinion. there's the implication of layers of skirted fabric, especially with that stitched band across the legs (here just covered by the tee). Wear a long tee and you have a pretty skirtish silhouette.

I'm not really sure, they're so associated with femininity. Not even just skirts but heels as well, I can see thick heels for men working but if you give them a male equivalent of regular high heels for women we'd probably think they made them faggy because it makes your hips swing more and so on. And what should men do with their legs when wearing skirts? I mean, I don't think the average guy is going to want to invest all that time and effort to shave his legs even if he doesn't consider it gay, but I doubt seeing a landscape of thick bodyhair will be in fashion anytime soon with our obsession with hairless bodies.

I think at most it would become something that's pulled off by androgynous celebrities then finds its way into their subculture. I can't really see it going mainstream any time soon.

That guy looks like he's very much into fashion and just doesn't care whether anyone likes it or not. OP asked whether it will ever become a common thing, which I doubt because a lot of people have issues with bodyhair and at the same time shaving is for some guys a sensitive issue, either because of laziness or because of it being "gay" or otherwise not masculine enough. Hell, where I live (Eurofag) any type of trousers/jeans that doesn't cover the entire legs is seen as unprofessional and unstylish.

The thing is that this goes deeper than spur of the moment culture. Masculinity has always been more vulnerable and something to be defended compared to femininity: women can bear children and when they become fertile naturally have the start of their menstruational cycle as a tipping point. Men have always looked for "artificial" ways to prove their manhood or the turning point from boy to man, which is why there are worldwide that much more rites/rituals to make men out of boys than to make women out of girls. The obsession with masculinity is part of men and always has been, from the Greek mythology up until now you can see dudes waving their dicks around trying to prove they're a big strong man, it's fighting an uphill battle as you'll never get the majority of the male sex behind you.

I really wouldn't pin men's skirting on Givenchy. I wouldn't pin it on any one house, actually. It's a logical progression. It's coming. It makes sense for the coming future.
It will recur every few years until it breaks the surface tension of the mainstream, and then it will become a slowly accepted staple.

But until then, let's not forget the minimal but noteworthy popularity of men's skirting in the underground electronic music and club scenes of the late 90's and early 00's. I saw plenty of hippies and techno-interests-me types experimenting with them ages ago.
